Top Speed?
Hey Guys,
Now before you get upste at this question, I will make a little disclaimer: "I do not endorse unsafe and otherwise dangerous driving habits." With that out of the way, does Ford have a "rev limiter" on the HD 150 which would cause the fuel to cut off at a certain speed? I ask this because my '99 Chevy Tahoe was limited to 100mph. I know the computer modifications would change this, but what will my BONE STOCK 2000 HD do???

Hi..
I don't know what the top speed is - haven't gotten there yet. I did get it up to 90
)
My boyfriend drove it last week and said he "blew the carbon out" for me.. but he wouldn't confess as to what speed he was doing. He did say "is that all?" when I told him I got up to 90...
I plan on running it out at the drags this summer at the all FORD function - I'll let you know what it does.
Hopefully I'll have the chip and new air setup by then. However I'm in the process of buying a 91 Z28 for racing so that's taking up most of the funds at the moment..

Stock 2000 HD 150's with 3:55 rear ratio shuts off at 108 mph. There is a few very early HD 150's with 3:73 ratio axles, but not sure what they shut off at. Un-governed top speed on a 2000 HD-150 is probably going to be between 120 - 125 mph, more if mods are present.
Hi Mike,
Your HD model uses the exact same 5.4 powertrain as all other 1999 & newer 5.4 F-150's, so you have a top speed limiter as well as several different types of rev limiters.
The top speed limiter is usually about 98 mph in the 1997 & newer F-150's, but the range is from 98-108 mph, and is generally set from the factory to be close to the speed rating of the tires in most vehicles.
The factory rev limiter on your 5.4 is 5400 rpm, but you also have a "no-load" rev limiter to prevent overspeeding the engine with no load on it, IE, flooring it in Neutral or Park, and this no-load rev limiter is always lower than the under-load rev limiter.
