Better exhaust (muffler)
When I get my truck, I want to retain the factory exhaust tail pipes etc. and only change out the muffler section for a much better sound. I've been told the entire exhaust of the HD is stainless. Is that true? And if so I'd obviously like to put a Gibson or Flowmaster stainless muffler in in place of the stocker. Do they have one that is a bolt in solution, no hacking and modifying.
Irutt,
Not sure on the HD but on the 2000 F150 the entire exhaust line is welded together. Therefore my guess is you will have to cut out existing muffler and weld in the new. Also the factory muffler on the F150 is about 4 foot long!
Had to add in a piece to fill in the gap between existing and new Flowmaster 50 series SUV.

Hi... Read your post...The exhaust that is on your HD is the exact same as the Lightning/ I also didn't like the sound on my HD and replaced it with a set of Flowmaster 40's excellant sound for me but may be a little to deep for others
Also changed out the air induction with an Airaid system along with a superchip, brought the rear down to match the front and got better stability in the curves...Put on a smoked windshield Wiper cowal and really filled up that dead space...Has lighted Ford emblems front and rear.... And trust me it holds it's own against the chevy boys...John from NC

Hi Motor....
I don't know the type you have but I have a Lund..It came with 2 pre-drilled holes and self tapping screws.....
Here's what I found out to be the best...forget the bracket get some heavy duty two faced taped or Velcro, the heavy duty automotive type.... Stratigically place some on the lower portion of the cowal...
Concerning mineand the selftapping screws...I had to secure one side then bend the other into position and they screw directly into the black windshield frame..get as close to the outer edges so as not to screw into the glass...could get expensive dude... Good luck...John from NC...
PS..sounds like alot but it is very easy...Have had my HD 100+ mph an have had no problems... If your in snow country I'd suggest you clean out the snow before turning those puppies on.....

Thanks.
I have the Lund and it came with the way you describe. I couldn't figure out what to do with the brackets...it looked like if I used them the door would hit them when it closed.
It sounds like you did what I was considering--namely, not using the brackets.
I like the idea of putting something between the body and the cowl where the screw goes in--didn't think of that. Did you put it anywhere else?
