Post Wheel Locks

Has anyone tried a set of stock wheels on HD 150. I put the wheel locks on, but I'm not sure they will do anything but slow someone down. I was thinking for traveling, a set of stock wheels (same outside diameter) might be the way to go.

I'm pretty happy with the wheel locks, John. Anyone who wants to get to my wheels is going to have one heckuva time getting the locks off without wrecking the wheel. They are sunk way into the wheel slots and are going to slow the thief down big time.

My philosophy is, use it and enjoy it!

are ur wheel locks McGuards? Do you need a key on the lock or are they like the McGuards that require a 'funny' lug adaptor? Thanks..cause these wheels are the most expensive I think I've ever heard of

My locks are the McGuards and the wheels would be pretty darn difficult to get off without either wrecking the wheel or creating one heck of a lot of commotion. They accept a lot of torque to put them on as the "funny shaped" key fits well and doesn't slip when you tighten it down.

I'm sure there is a way to overcome the locks, but the average amateur thief is going to have a difficult time of it, imo.

Thanks..I've got Macguards on my SVT Contour wheels since day 1--1 per tire tho and planning to get a set for the HD when I put the normal wheels back on this Spring. Good price if you got 1 Macguard per reg lug. Tire guys don't seem to need the 'funny' lug tho for tire changes. How do they do that ? At least the kids will have a harder time.

casey k, I've always had to give the key to the guys doing the tires. Is there a way for them to get it off without them? That's the first I've heard of it! Maybe someone else will pop in with an answer.

Hey Harley Guy, the wheel locks I got from Ford are Macguards. I have decided to trust the locks and do without another set of wheels. If they get ripped I'll scream, cry and buy another set of wheels. By the way, I really like the truck. No more small trucks for me. No more five speed trannies. I don't care if the Ranger gets sixty miles per gallon. Since I got the F150, no more back pain from shifting.

Harleyguy: all I know when I had new snows and rims installed 2 years ago on the SVT with the McGuards, they said they wouldn't need the funny lug--I didn't question them since the car was new and never had any experience with tire changes with this lug. All I know is I drove off with new rims and snows with the funny lug still under the spare and the orig tires in the trunk--I need the lug twice a year when I go winter to summer tires and versa. Still dunno how they did it but I'll still get a set for the HD

I'm wondering if there aren't maybe 10 or 20 standard patterns and some tire places get all the patterned keys? Maybe if you are a registered business or something, you can get the all keys? Just a thought. Of course, if they do give them out like that, then theives could get them, too. Still, it stops the amateurs and that's the main one we're looking at anyway.
