Angry Windshield Assembly Problems -- Quality Control?

My HD/Ford truck is basically great. The quality on it is nearly perfect as far as fit and finish of the paint, wheels, engine, etc. I went over it with the proverbial "fine tooth comb."

But, the windshield was poorly installed at the Montreal plant. It is all gooed up on the inside with some sort of glue around the edges. (It was about 2 inches out from the edge all the way around.) Doesn't look too bad when the light is right but if the sun is on it, it's BAD. Anyhow, this glue would not remove with any solvents I have, including acetone, gasoline, and more. I finally took a razor blade to it and was able to scrap the stuff off. Took a long time as had to be careful with the blade. Lots of crud came off and had to vacuum the dash afterwards.

Is this problem just specific to my new baby or have others had this problem?

The assembly point is Oakville by the way but it doesn't excuse the windshield guck--I wonder if it got damaged in transit and a local replacement was made.

I went over my truck on delivery based on fit and finish and apin comments on this board and really can't complain about anything--everything looks and fits right from paint to finish. Definately didn't have any extra glue crud around the windshield so would be suspect on whether this was a factory job or not. ck

Good point about a possible change of the windshield, but it had all the original factory stickers on it when I picked the truck up from the dealer. I picked my HD/F-150 up before the dealer had a chance to do any detailing and I just did it myself. The window had several stickers that indicate it WAS the original windshield.

Anyhow, the gunk on it was cleanable and it is fine now. Just took a little over an hour with a razorblade and lots of little specks of glue all over the place. It's fine now.

The rest of the truck's fit and finish is great, so overall, I have no complaints.
