Advice buying a F-150 HD edition

Hello, great forum

I am in the market for a 2001-2002 F-150 Harley D. edition. For those of you that are actually owners of the vehicle, can you tell me a little bit about the pros and cons of this truck. ie...what you like/dislike

the syling is ablsolutely beautiful, as well as mean looking, i love em.

Are there any common problems that this truck has?

Is there anything worth pointing out that i should particularly pay attention too when searching and inspecting these trucks before i buy?

I've read the Est. MPG. but from an owners standpoint, what is the realistic MPG. city/Hwy?

I have never owned a truck, i currently drive a 2001 Lexus LS430, but i need a truck in my garage as well. I have been looking around at different models, years and makes, and i am still drawn back to this particular truck everytime.

I have narrowed it down to this truck and around the same year Sierra Denali. I'm trying to get as much info from the owners of these trucks as i can, b/f making my descision.

Thanks in advance guys, and sorry for the long post

For one thing, there is a major difference between the 01 and 02 HD. The 01 is just the 5.4L offerred in other F-150s while the 02 is a supercharged 5.4L. I believe the 02 has a slightly different exhaust too. The 01 has a single in, dual out muffler while the 02 has a dual in and dual out muffler. Other than that, the differences are mostly cosmetic. Different grilles, headlights, stripes, some interior differences, etc.

If you can find an 02, I'd recommend it, just for the supercharger appeal.

I have an 01 and I absolutely love it. It's got plenty of power and it's very comfortable. It handles better than a regular F-150 due to the lowering, beefier suspension, and 20" wheels with low profile tires. Compared to a regular F-150, I see very little cons, except maybe you won't feel as comfortable treating it like a truck since it is so gorgeous. The lower front valance is probably the only thing you got to be careful of. It's a bit low.

As far as gas mileage, it sucks, but hey, it's a truck. I probably get around 16MPG hwy.

luv my 01 HD

I have had my 01 for over 2 years. The truck has given me good service. The only problem i have is the truck never gets tried of stopping at gas stations 12-14 mpg in the city. I am not complainting, it cost to be the boss. Go ahead man and get the truck.
One more difference in the 01 and 02 is that the 02 has automatic climate controls which is something I had to get use to coming from my 95 maxima.

I have an 01 which I love. I would say you will not go wrong with any Harley choice whether it's a 01 through an 03. Even the 00 has a appeal if you like the extended cab model, which I don't. However, at this time, I actually prefer the 01 over the 02, and 03. My reasons are I like the all black interior better, and I like the fact that it's not supercharged since gas is over 2.00 a gallon and it runs on regular. The 01 is rated for 15 in town and 19 on the highway and runs on regular unleaded. The 02 and 03 requires premium, and the ratings are 12 in town and 15 hwy.

Yes, I would love to have the supercharger for the power and the speed, but I could add a centrifugal version from ProCharger for about 3k and still get good milage if you stay out of it. The centrifugal superchargers behave a little different though, the horsepower is produced at higher rpms. I prefer the screw chargers better due to the low end power they generate.

So, not to knock any of them, you will not go wrong with any choice. They also seem to hold their value. But currently, I prefer an 01 over the 02 or 03 simply due to gas and mods. If I had one with the supercharger, I would want to mod the heck out of it, and the bottom ends of the motors really aren't built for it.

Regards,
RickC
