Cool Just Got My HD

Hey all!

I'm brand new to this forum...so first of all just wanted to say hi! I bought a 03' HD today, 23000 miles, toneau cover, bed extender, power sliding rear window, power sunroof, all the bells and whistles.

I was just wondering if you guys could tell me what are the first things that usually wear down on these trucks, I'm assuming brakes and tires? Anything I need to be aware of or careful of as a new owner of one of these bad boys??

My first car was a '91 Mercury Tracer, so as you can tell this is an obvious upgrade!! Thanks...

Mike.

Congratulations on your new ride. Post some pictures when you can.

Nothing wears on these trucks more than a regular truck except perhaps for the rear tyres

Also, expect your bank balance to wear rapidly as you start to get the mod bug

You might want to check out the National Harley Owners Club over at www.nhoc.com
Lots of more detailed information over there as the HD board here is usualy pretty quiet.

congrats and welcome

check your engine to see if the previous owner added an oil separator:

It helps minimize this:

Congrats. Don't have much to add. I've only had mine for a couple of weeks.

Enjoy!

Welcome ! I second the separator idea. On any used vehicle, it's a good idea to size up what maintenance was done, then perform what you're not sure about. Then, you'll just have it back on the factory schedule. If you're on the factory ATF at 23,000 miles, I would consider changing it soon.

Thanks for the advice, guys!

That oil separator seems like a sound investment...would you guys recommend the L&S Automotive Performance Center separator kit for $200? Or would I be better off making my own? How much of an impact on reliability or performance would not installing an oil separator have? Or is it just basically a nuisance to have to clean out the oil when it returns through the PCV valve? I'm assuming I would have to take the blower apart to see if this has already happened? I apologize for the newbie questions...I'm just getting into the whole performance car world...keeping in mind my first car was a '91 Tracer!

You're Welcome ! Browse around in the Lightning area for the oil control/separator topic and you'll commonly see alot of great photos, comments, and ideas. It's a highly debated topic which I have no interest in being further involved in. "MOST" agree that minimally, you should get a simple separator. I have one REM unit and one homemade version. They both work the same. Here is my parts list: https://www.f150online.com/galleries...0810&anum=7528
