Help Installing Lower Grill

I bought one of those lower valances for the HD about a month ago. It only came with the grill and no brackets. Had to go to Ford, special ordered, etc.

Well just from a quick comparison I can't really see how it's supposed to fit. Nor did I get any bolts or nuts.

Does anyone have any pics of behind the valance showing how the brackets fit or know how to install it? Or what size bolts should go in it?

Thanks

I am not quite sure what you are asking, whether you are installing like a J&J grill or a whole new valance.

If you got a whole new valance I would ask Harley#356 because he recently swapped from a '00 to an '02 I believe.

If you mean the J&J grill it should come with attached bolts and nuts.

If this wasn't very much help you can try NHTOC that is where a lot of the HD traffic goes.

Good luck

don't have any pics of the back of my valance, but i know mitch does at FTW.
go to the FTW galleries, then in the filters for the galleries pick 2002, Harley-Davidson, 4x2, and then find the gallery with "Mitch" in the title, i know there's something after it, but Mitch is the start of the gallery name. he's got pics of the back of his valance in there.

The top attaches with clips and the bottom attaches with bolts, but its been so long i forget exactly how. if i known 3 weeks ago i could have snapped pics of the new valance that i just sold

You can't get a lower matching grille from ford. unless you want a chrome version of your stock one, you have to order a whole 00 HD lower valance, which catches around 8-900 from ford

www.j-jent.com is the site that custom makes the matching lowers for the thick style upper grilles. REM also sells them for a little cheaperr i think because they are a distributor of j-jent.

anyway, faboom, did you want to come to the mikes famous meet on september 20th this year? you disappeared off the boards last year around this time.
www.mikesfamous.com for directions

If your talking about the entire lower valance, its held on with several bolts that come in from the bumper end and thread into nutplates on the valance itself. very easy to install/remove if you have all the hardware.

Lemme try to be clearer.....

Bought a HD valance for about 150 from eBay. It came with a black grill to fit inside of it, but none of the brackets. About a hundred bucks at the dealership, and the one I got wasn't chrome and those aren't the brackets I have. I'm gonna spend the next out trying to figure out if I can tell where anything goes.

Yeah, I had the same problem when I got mine.

The grill has those pieces that stick out on the top that look like they might clip into something. I drilled a hole in the two that are closest to the center of the grill.

I then postioned it behind the valance, got it just right and marked where the holes hit the bumber. I pulled off the valance and drilled two small holes where I marked them into the bumper.

I you have a licence plate bracket the holes I drilled were about half an inch in from where the holes for the top of the bracket are.

Put it all back together and put the grill in with a couple of small nuts/bolts. It sat a little high so I added a few washers between the grill and bumper to get it just right.

It fits perfectly, doesn't move or wobble or anything.

Don't know if thats how you wanted to do it. I tried to fab some brackets and mount it, but I couldn't get anything to work. Didn't have much material to work with.

I think this way works fine, no brackets to make or buy. Just drill a couple holes.

Hope this helps you out.

If anythings not clear on what I did let me know, I'll try to clarify.

Now I just have to figure out how to mount some fog lights.

My truck was recently crunched in the front and I will be getting a new lower valance, I am currently running the J&J grille, so if anyone needs the factory black lower grille with mounting hardware give me a shout!

When you buy a factory lower valance it comes with the lower grille.

I just installed the "Venom" lower grille on my truck. It looks great and I'm very happy with it.
