Defective paint?

I have an 01 hd f150. Has anyone ever run into a problem with their paint starting to crack? I have 56k miles on the truck and little by little the paint is cracking. It is only cracking on the top of the hood and fenders. I had a guy that worked for me with the same problem. He took it to a Ford dealer and they told him that within 00-02 Ford changed paint companies. He also told him that it was cheap paint. Now, has anyone else had this problem? What is the warranty on the paint anyways? I know this is not normal so any suggestions would be appreciated. They repainted his truck but, This is the first that i have heard of anything like this. I guess I'll have to take my truck into the shop

On another note, Anyone have that awful noise when you start up your truck in the morning? It sounds like the lifters to me. I read the piston slap thread but, that states its only for trucks built prior to 2000. the sound i hear is very much like it! Please help me out !!!
thanks in advance!

I own a body shop in NV. and have been a painter for some 25 years. The problem your having with the paint is its to thick. Some cars and trucks get painted several times from factory if they didn't turn out right the first time. Go to your local auto paint store or good body shop and have them use a paint mill gauge, I will bet you the paint thats cracking is 12 mills thick or more. The ideal thickness for base/clear paint is 4.5-6.0 mills anything more it will crack. Take that info. to your dealer.
