Whats that grinding sound?
Every now and then ,theres some wired grinding/clanking sound coming from the Harley. Its done it 3 different times. It only does it when its in gear so Im pretty sure its with the tranny. It does it at low speeds and a mild throttle. The grinding sound gets really quiet sometimes and then gets really loud at times. I took it back to Ford and just my luck ,it stopped making the sound then. The sound sounds like a chain is being dragged ,but nothing is hangine from the bottom of the car. Next time Im going to record the sound and then take it to Ford.
How conveniant! Use the recording device in your fold-down visor and then play it for them at the dealership. Tell us how things work out...It does sound like something is wrong with them gears.
Same thing happened to me today in my 03 HD (500 on the ODO). I was driving home from work and I started hearing that chain dragging sound. Never noticed it before, but chaulked it up to normal truck noise (this is my first truck). Then all of a sudden I get this horrible screetch. If you've even hear a brake rotor get resurfaced, it was a muffled version of that the sound.
Nothing happened:
Truck didn't pull to one side or the other
Didn't slow down at all (if I was on the throttle it wasn't much at all)
Didn't feel like it was changing gears.
Didn't feel like the torque converter clutch disengaged
Like I said, it was like business as usual except that it sounded like the diff was tearing itself apart
My 3 theories are that its either the clutch packs in the diff not seated right, the e-brake not totally released (as brakes heat up they contact) or its the lock up clutch in the torque converter (if there is one, don't know much about this truck yet).
I'm leaning towards the diff or the e-brakes, since thats where I think the sound was coming from.

Truck will be going in to the dealer next week ,hoepfully they will give me a 03 Cobra as a loaner.(yeah right)
