lowering truck
Going to lower my 00' lariat 3/4
(FRONT)
Here's my question since I'm lowering the front 3" is replacing the springs the best way of doing this MOD. If so what Brand, what can I expect to pay for some good 3" drop springs and where may I get them at. Do I need to replace the shocks right away do I need to do the alignment right away.
(BACK)
In the back going to use 2" shackles but not sure on how to get the other 2". I might use hangers, but since this going to be a do it yourself project I hear hangers can be a biatch to put on. (What are some good brand hangers and what might I expect to pay and where may I get them at.) What could be some other ways I may recieve the 2" without using the hangers.
As you can tell I don't know much about suspension mods so the HELP I recieve is greatly appreciated. Thanks

you will definetly require alignment and an alignment kit. i went for a 2/4 using front coils springs from Razor's and 2" shackles in rear then removed one leaf spring. it looks good but not too slammed. i'm using the stock shocks and the truck rides as good as ever, no need for shocks in my oppinion. I spent $325.00 (align kit & labor) at the shop + $45.00 (shackles) +$190.00 springs= $560.00 total
To answer some but not all of your questions DJM is a good brand for the rear drop. I got my rear shacles from them for $30.00, and they sell the 2" shackles with 2" hangers for $75, which aint bad at all. I love the quality of the shackles.
Can't speak for the hangers.
Another route you could go is to get lowering blocks. I don't know anyone who has tried these but I so them in there cataloge.
Hope this helps a little and gets you going in the right direction.
Another good brand for lowering suspension parts is Belltech I hear. Lot of guys have those shackles.
Good Luck

you could do like hotchikis rear springs. they've got like 3" rear drop springs i'm pretty sure. or i believe JL is coming out with 3" rear drop shackles soon.
for the front you could either do springs, or the western chasis lower A arms. a few L guys have those and they are BEEFY! look like they belong on a F350 or something.everybody who had them said they were really happy with them.

1st of all THANKS 2 all that are helping.
2nd sorry to say but all of this is getting kinda of confusing 4 me there seems 2 be so many ways to acheive the lower look.
Can someone fill me in on the alignment kit (what does it contain) I never heard of an alignment kit before.
Taking out one leaf spring will lower the rear by how much and by doing this will it affect anything?
What is easier changing the front springs or putting on lowering A-arms?
Please remember I'm going to do this on my own. I do know my way around tools its just I have never done this or seen it done before. And since the truck is my daily driver I can't spend more time than necessary on it.
Sorry 4 the dumbness just looking for the best and quickest way to lower the truck.
Thanks 2 all again 4 the help.

I'd think a-arms would be harder to do, but you'd have a better ride cuz you still use your stock springs, unless you really want to slam and use drop coils and a arms. although, i'm just a novice with drops also, not sure if you could do both.
and things will be a little different between the HD trucks and L's and your truck, cuz the HD's and L's come dropped 1" from the factory by the springs, so to get the look of a 2" front drop on a HD, you'd need to get a 3" drop.
plus its just plain hard to tell from pics cuz it usually looks different in person anyway
goodluck though

Please I need more advice.
Now I see there are 3" drop shackles. If I use these and take out one leaf spring will I get the 4" I'm going for. And by taking out a leaf spring will it affect anything?
Please HELP!

well, the obvious would be less payload/tow rating
anyway, if you're doing this yourself, i think the 3" drop shackles are the way to go. then maybe remove a leave for another 1" or however much that is good for, then like a 3" front drop spring. it'll look great, post pics when you're done

you probably don't want to take out a leaf, it will only lower it less than a 1/2 inch and will bottom out easier (too soft). i used bell tech hangers and shackles (4") and added an f250 overload leaf (raised it up 1/2") to get aprox the last 3/4 " of suspension travel a lot stiffer. it does not come into effect unless i hit large bumps. without it, it will bottom out, especially if you don't notch the frame.
removing a leaf from the rear is inexpensive and works good, i don't two anything so the truck is not too soft and the ride is about the same. look at HD4mula's (sharp) truck so you can decide if that is the look you want to achieve. removing the leaf will add nearly 2" of drop, not a 1/2" as some people think.
the front end alignment kit is somthing that the alignment shop installs to increase the adjustment range of the stock setup. they will provide that and installation when the alignment job is performed.

Thanks again 2 all and thanks 2 Preaux 4 the info on the alignment kit.
Everything seems to be getting a little more clearer 4 me. I guess I'll be going with 3" drop coils in the front.
But 4 the back not sure what to use 2" Shackles/hangers or 3"shackles/take out a leaf.
I'll probably end up doing the 3" shackles and taking out a leaf spring since this seems the simpliest and easiest way.
Just not sure what 2 expect with the new shackles. And with my luck I'll probably end up with the suddering that some get when lowering their truck.
Where would be the best place to get the front coils?
If I end up doing this MOD and I hope I do. I will do it around march Even though I live in Houston TX it doesn't get that cold but anything below 65 is cold 4 me just going to wait for my kind of weather. And since march is just around the corner I would like 2 start ordering my parts already and get as much info on the subject as I can.
Thanks again I just want to know what to do before I do it.
Like they say "better to be safe than sorry"

Removing the leaf got me two (2") full inches and the truck barely bottoms out at all. If you do this with the 3" shackles you will get near 5" (not 4") drop and will get into trouble without a c notch. The leaf removed in my truck measures about 37 1/8". I think is the second one from the top.

anyway, lightningforceperformance.com has pretty good prices. and they are a supporting vendor. JL is the one who sells the 3" rear shackles
goodluck
