weight drop ideas

I posted this in the L board figuring to get some decent response, but instead picked up an ugly old troll, with offspring to boot...

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=101424

The stock harley spare is a 255/70/16 general tire with a 16x7 steel wheel. That thing is HEAVY!. It also has a 30ish inch O.D. which is a little larger than stock. I would a assume a little smaller than stock would be fine -- say maybe a 28-29" O.D...

Anyway, bogart has a 2 piece that will handle the load at maybe 12 lbs in a 16x7. I see the drag skinnies with tread weighing in around 9-12 lbs, but I can't find a 16" nor can I find a load rating to see if they could be used as a temp spare.

This would drop a LOT of weight and not have to worry about the spare issue any more for those of us who like to race.

Now, on to the tailgate. What do you use your tailgate for? I use mine when I load my 4 wheeler... But I bet my ramps will fit on the lip with the gate taken off.

I think the truck would look cool if you could get some kind of caps or frame that would cover the left, right, and bottom and give the truck a nice smoothed appearance, kind of like roll pans do. If they were painted to macth and could be fairly easily removed/put back on, that would be a sweet mod, don't you think? Along with those nifty caps, a webbed or some other kind of *nice* looking rentention system that would attach to the sides of the bed just forward of the new caps that could support some weight would make for a usable bed for 90% of my use of the truck and would look really custom. Any ideas? I have seen the webbed tailnets out there, but they still have the problem of the ugly edges around where the tail was to deal with...

No tailgate. . .If done right, it would look pretty cool. Maybe even get the bed rails that match the paint and curves like Cobra (I think) has. It would look very awsome to have the bed wrap around and match the curves of the body, but it might cost a lot more money than it is worth.

I wonder how many people would buy some "rollpan" type covers for when you removed the tailgate? They could be painted to match, and fit on all newer F-150s. I think some of the hood manufactures out there need to step up to the challenge.

You know exactly whay I am saying, hogg...

I contacted Sir Micheals to see if he would be interested in building a prototype for me. If he was willing to do it, but required it for at least 3 people, what would you be willing to pay and who would be willing?

I'm in up to $300 knowing the final should be $100 or so...

Depends on what I got. . . three separate pieces that fit onto the sides and bottom of where the tailgate used to be. . .painted to match, I would pay $300.

But I am not interested right now. I reciently payed $1400 for an electric roll away tonneau, it wouldn't be good if I decided not to use it.

How much is a quality roll pan? or those bed rails that match the paint? The price should compare with those.
