how fast is a supra?

I was driving on the beltway and saw a supra with a very large wing on the back -- one of those rounded ones that looks more stock. (not an aluminum whale tail).

It had the maxwell house economy bulk sized coffee can exhaust (biggest one I have ever seen) on the left rear side. It was dark and I could not read any of the emblems or stickers.

I rolled up next to him blipped the throttle to get his attention and then hammered it. We were running about 60mph so I got a good kick down...

I heard him get on it (that fart was LOUD) but I started pulling away immediately. We didn't get far before we caught the traffic in front of us and had to jump on the brakes...

He found an opening and gunned it and took off, but I was too tired to chase him down...

How fast are those things? I thought they were supposed to be insane fast...

Ken

a somewhat modded twin turbo is a 10 second car... racers beware!

i see your education of import cars is minimal so ill try to be nice....a stock twin turbo 93-98 supra had 320 stock hp and ran low 13s stock.....with an airfilter down pipe exahust and a boost controller the car runs easy 12s and a wed car will hit 11s with the right driver.......there was the same car offered in a non turbo model and yes it had the big wing your describing.....the non turbos run mid to high 15sec 1/4 mile..if the car was loud when he got on it ...it was most likely a non turbo...as the turbo tends to keep the car very docile in the exahust DB department

so that 3.0L 6cyl would destroy 99% of the HDs out there...my little lexus puts out over 600rwhp on sock engine ..just lowered compression.....and a turbo.....i know the domestics dont like rice...but educate yourself before you talk about coffee cans and whale tails

Some are N/a right ? maybe thats what you raceed. Altough I have beat many of boasted supra's in my mustang only(250wrhp at the time) mustang so they do not run low 13 of the floor not everyone mods there car.

But they can be very fast.

Kinda like 02 harleys.

"um sure mister z28 its stock"

thats a nice SC 300 dude, what kinda grounds effects do you have? (I'm a big fan of something simple yet functional, all those other ricer style ground effects with humongous openings for air flow are just too much) plus I'm a huge fan of Lexus... BMW and Mercedes-Benz. any of those cars should never be used in the same sentence as rice.

oh, the late model supra that I saw doing 10's was most likely spraying... it was a sweet looking car, kinda wish they were still selling them when I worked for a Toyota dealership back in 2000... there's a place here in Jersey that tunes Supras: www.maxrpm.com he does some crazy stuff and tests it at ATCO.

Is it 13's or low 13's ???. Please, my little 250rwhp ran 12.80's at 105 mph and it was slow then, but still pulled most supras I raced...

And as far as 0-50 lol surpa's wont race below 50 lol, only 50-150 races lol RICE RACING AT ITS BEST.

SC300,

You said 600hp at the rear wheels; did I see you on NOPI TV? Several weeks ago there was a guy with a SC300 making a lot of hp with the stock motor.

Thats why I asked.

I wasn't bragging a kill cause we didn't stay in it long enough for one and two, I expected to get roasted (didn't) so I asked how fast they were...

Concerning the whale tale, it was not an insult, it was a description. I said it looked like a stock one. The coffee can analogy is spot on. The muffler was probably 16-18" thick and the tip was probably 8-10". Truly the biggest damn thing I have ever seen. At first I thougt it was a joke of some sort. Not making fun, making an observation.

Thanks for the information -- sorry if I committed a faux pas.

*edit* also, if you go back and re-read my post, I noted it was dark and could not read stickers or anything. Again, that's why I asked. I didn't need an insult in return. A description of the different model years, HP, and 1/4 times would have been sufficient to tell me A) it was loud -- from your desc. non turbo B)Obviously not a turbo cause if we had stayed in it much longer it would have been embarrasing for him.

Ken

After reading this again, I am more irritated. My education of import cars is pretty solid, but I don't know much about supras. Again, why I asked. Isn't asking for information a way to educate yourself? Why did you feel the need to belittle me? Who pi$$ed in your wheaties this morning?

I don't like adding fuel to the fire, but hey I like fire

I agree with Ken, the response was insulting even if it was not directed towards me. Knowledge of vehicles whether an import or domestic is not automatic just because you own a high performance truck.

Kinda reminds me of my countless hours hanging out at my local audio guy's shop. The Harley is parked way out in the back, out of sight where the install bays are at. They get a lot of expensive/high-end cars, lotsa Ferraris for audio installs. A lot of them talk smack about racing a this.. and that... and them winning all the time. Talking about performance about OTHER vehicles including the HD and that it has no chance against their car(they have no idea whose is it, probably think its one from the customers).

Some of them actually consider themselves better drivers and more knowledgeable about other cars just by having a fast car. But I've often proven them wrong when I start asking really technical questions, they start stuttering... turn red and most of all blabber with no case in point...

let me start of with an apology.........i didnt mean to offend or belittle anyone...and after re reading your post and mine...i am apologizing.....i didnt mean to be harsh and should have just stated the facts.....
i tend to get a little bothered by alot of domestic owners that are very ignorant to the import scene.....i for one am a lover of almost all cars.....i appreciate anyone who modifies there car in a tastefull and purpouseful manner....i have spent way too much on modifying the lexus ...i was going to buy a HD but deciced not too because the 1st thing i would have done was bought a chip, pulley and full exahust...and thats not what i needed.....i needed a relable vehicle that did everything well...which is exactly what i got.....mabye in a couple years ill sell the lexus and buy an HD to play with...but if that happens the truck will be in the 10s when im done......

so i hope you accept my apologies....i didnt join this board to flame....just wanted to educate and i went about it in the wrong way...

as for my lexus...it is a low 10sec car.....the car with 440rwhp on pump gas went 11.9@115 now its over 600rwhp...i havent had much time for enjoying the car plus an accident at the track will most likely keep me from going back to the track on slicks....
as for nopi tv..i have done alot of interviews about the car and they end up alot of places....so its quite possible it was me...usally my girlfriend is apart of the interview....<she is pretty cute>
Jerzey- i really appreciate the compliments...the front and rear bumpers are from japan.....company called WALD...the side skirts are actually factory from lexus 97 and newer cars had them...and i liked the way they matched up....im very picky about how i do things on my cars.....and i have seen riced out lexuses as well as riced out fords.....so theres good and bad in every aspect of car people
GT40- if you were running 12.80 with only 250 rwhp you must have a light car ....and if supras run 13s stock<i believe its mid 13s> then i could see how you were beating them.....and as for 50-150 races.....they have there place when your on street tires....if your making 600-800 rwhp its almost impossible to run on street tires below 50mph......i have run vettes and mustangs out of the hole in the lexus...and they would destroy me out of the hole and come 3rd gear id fly right by them.....but still...i would race them from a dig...to be fair to them......

chestrec- i do have a pretty good knowledge about most cars...as i love cars alot......and i have met plenty of those people with very nice cars that know very little.....but if you would like to get techy....please bring it on...i love a good debate.....and i love the HD....and have total respect for it....

anyone see the latest trucking mag where they said the 37k dodge ram was bettter than the 39k HD?????? are they retarted or what?...guess Dodge mad a good donation to truckin mag this year....

Jeff
