Can anyone help me finding right part #s for following Gatorback belts:

1) For '02 HD supercharger with stock upper and stock lower pulley?

2) For serepentine belt?

Thanks in advance!

Blown4DR,

Thank you! Are you sure that will work, though? That is same as part # for Lightning, and H-D has bigger upper pulley than L.

Thanks again!

ZoranC,

I just got off the phone with someone in Ford Parts department who understands part codes. He told me that the OEM Blower belt code indicated that the blower belt has 8 ribs and is 66.7" long. I am pretty sure that you can safely install the Gatorback 4080660 belt which has 8 ribs and is 66.0" long, as the tensioner should have enough range to handle it.

Good Luck!

GRY GHST,

Thank you!

What is optimal (best) length though? In other words, at what length Gatorback belt will have optimal (maximum?) gripping power across whole RPM range even with sudden changes (when I slam on gas)?

Also, how much tensioner can handle?

I am illiterate about belts and tensioners, so please bear with my questions if they are silly.

Thanks again and in advance!

Accessory belt # is 4080990.

Blower belt # that Blown4DR gave you will work great.

You can also easily modify the stock tensioners and run shorter belts for better grip. That's what I did on my Lightning. I can show you a picture of what to do if you're interested.

SVTRobG,

I am curious about that tensioner mod you mentioned, but I am even more curious how all this works together. Belt type, length, tension, and tensioner itself are all part of equation. How one knows what is "optimal" solution for that equation when belt is at right tightness and tensioner can handle it without trouble?

Thanks!

Well, I'm not an engineer but I alway ran a belt that was 1 inch shorter than recommanded on my Lightning and I had no premature wear problems. This was due mostly to the modified tensioners though, because once you see the pictures you'll see how much more travel you can get out of a stock tensioner.

Personally, I really like the Gatorback belts because I've never experienced belt slip with them and they are usually quieter than anything else I've ever tried.

I'll go snap some pictures now.

Take a look at the flat head screwdriver, it's pointing out the tensioner stop.

The tensioner stop is easily broken off with a flat head screwdriver and a hammer. I prefer to take off the tensioner and cut off the stop with a cut-off wheel.

Here, you can see how much more travel you can get out of a stock tensioner, almost anothe 1 1/4" !!!

This little mod is what permits me to run the shorter belts without adverse affects.

SVTRobG,

Your mod is making me very curious. How tensioners work? What that mod buys us that we don't have without it? Are there any cons of doing that mod?

Thanks again!

Zoran, just walked in the door here, 4:36AM. The part number listed above for your supercharger belt is correct.

I have confirmation on my end as well.

I will get the parts we discussed on the phone together and get them out to by the weekend.

Happy New Year everyone here @ F150online.com

ZoranC,

I just installed the Goodyear Gatorback belt 4080660 in place of the stock belt. I am pretty sure that I would not have been able to fit it on without the tensioner modification list above. The actual range of the tensioner was barely enough to remove the stock belt. Since the Gatorback belt is .7" shorter, I did not even attempt to put it on without modifing the tensioner. The tensioner stop is exactly as outlined in SVTRobG's pictures, and a cut off wheel mounted on a dremel makes quick work of removal. In looking at the stock belt, it was already glazed, as I suspected, and the ribs were certainly shorter in depth than the Gatorback.

Good Luck

ShowYa, Thanks! So your insider gurus feel that would be length that works best? If yes, do they have any input opinion on tensioner mod Rob just described?

Also, what about serpentine belt? I would like to change both at same time, so what is length of OEM one?

Thank You! I will be checking that foglight glass today and I will e-mail you what I found out, so don't ship it till you hear from me.

Thanks again!

GRY GHST,

Thank you for the input. Tensioner not giving enough space to work with even with stock belt is not good news, it means (to my layman mind) that it does not have much tolerance.

So, original belt is already glazed? How many miles you have on it?

Thanks!

Accessory belt # is 4080990 ( Gatorback )

It's 99" long but a 98" belt will work with modified tensioner.

All that a tensioner is, is a tightly wound spring. That's it. When you remove the stop you increase the travel so a shorter belt ( 1/2" to 1" shorter is optimal ) can be run. It's a real easy mod, won't hurt the tensioner and you'll always have a nice, tight belt.
That means no loss in boost due to a loose belt
