your valued opinion(long)

Hey everyone. I need your opinion as to what to do. I have been in contact with a dealer about a new 02HD. He can get me the truck for x-plan then $2,000 rebate totaling a little over $31,000. I also asked if they would sell me a new 03HD on X-plan when they receive one and he said yes they would be happy to help. The total for the 03 is something like $33,000 and some change. Now here is where you come in. What should I do? The only hang up is my trade in which has some disequity. He said that they dealer traded the one we were talking about but that there are plenty in the region that he could have shipped to him. That brings up the next question. What color should I get if we can get everything ironed out? I appreciate any input from you guys on this tough matter. One more question about the x-plan, I thought that all of the fees ($113) were waived with X-plan am I right.
Thanks
John

well since the 02 and 03 HD are very similar in alot of ways, its basically up to which you like better. flames theme? or 100th anniv them? or DSG or 2tone if you are going by the colors.

personally i'd rather have a 03 over a 02 cuz i like the 100th anniv. stuff and all that, and the black blower, and the super detailed pinstripe, and the overall interior of the 03. but i'd love to get a 02 just as much.

check out my thread here
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...2&pagenumber=1

somebody asked me how i'd compare the 02 to the 03, so i posted alot of the little details that changed and which i liked better. it may help ya out, it may not.

good luck, and let us know how it turns out

Thanks Josh,
I figure I just got a promotion that makes me more money and I am do for my 90 day evaluation which if I lived up to expectations will mean maybe more money(fingers are crossed). So I now have the chance to make my own dream come true. I live at home so monthly payments aren't that big a deal, just means I may have to stay home for a little longer than expected but hey I'll have one of the coolest vehicles on the road. As fas as the two trucks go I love the DSG and the flame theme of the 02's but the interior of the 03's appears to be a little more sturdy for my fat a$$(260-270 but whos counting). I think it will all boil down to what the dealer can work out on which one I will decide on. By the way Josh, do you collect Harley (motorcycle) shirts from dealers? Thanks again for any input you fine people may have.
John

not really HD stuff, i try to just stay with HDF150 stuff, cuz i know if i start collecting everything thats HD, and not HDf150, i'll be completely broke i've got about 8 or 9 HDf150 jackets, and a bunch of shirts from the catalog, and just about all the diecasts (except for the 01HD from the dealer that is in the orange box with the cycle in the bed, can't find that one anywhere ) and all the r/c trucks

i don't have pics of all my HDF150 stuff uploaded, but there's pics of my HDf150 kansas city build team shirts at the bottom of this gallery

Here is what I think....

I bought my 03' Black HD under X plan for $33,700 and then got the $1k rebate therefore reducing the price to $32,700. I like the 03' anniversary interior and black supercharger better but I like the Dark Shadow grey exterior better than I do the black. So it just depends on which features you like better. The black is VERY hard to keep clean but looks so awesome when it is clean, just personal preference here. I don't know about the fees but I have heard that. I am now going to check into that since you have mentioned that, maybe I can get some money back if I paid any of those fees.

Also, I got 6.9% financing on it thru the dealership but realized when I went to report the truck to the insurance company (State Farm) they said they could get me 6.2 % thru them, so they are trying to get me refinanced thru them now. Fine by me, lower payments are lower payments. You might want to check into interest rates before buying and checking with your insurance company as well. Let me know if you find out anything on the fees before I do.

Just make sure the truck you get doesn't have many miles on it or might have been a test driven mule for one of the dealerships. Also make sure you get the moonroof option, I love mine.... it's always open unless it 40 degrees out like right now. Good luck and you really can't make a wrong decision on these trucks.

Hey Lightning The Wings,

I just picked up my 03. I love it. The one reason I went with the 03 is due to it matching my 03 Electra Glide Ultra Classic to a tee.
I would have gone with the 03 anyway, due to the interior decor and the black exterior. Is very sharp. Yes, black is harder to keep clean but looks great though. I have taken all my trucks to Zeibart. The Diamond gloss treatment they do to vechicles is great. Sure is easier to keep clean with it on. Plus keeps small scratches from forming as well.
The choice is yours. Either way they are both very sharp trucks. Each model is a head turner. Good luck in your choice.

Basically most of your questions are personal opinion questions. And the answers to though are always the one that is going to make you happiest in the long run. The difference in price is very small so get the truck YOU like the best. Good Luck.

It all depends on the term and your credit, but you guys shouldn't be paying over 4.9 for 60 months right now. I was able to work UMB Bank down to 4.3% for 60 just 2 months ago. If you are financing 72 months, the going rate is around 5.75% for good credit.

hey ecm747x, congrats on the 03. i don't remember seeing you over here on the HD board yet. anyway, when you get a chance, post pics of your matching truck and bike, and join the HD registry at www.svtregistry.com/harley-davidson

and as said above, black is more work to keep clean, but damn, when its clean its worth all the work. NOTHING looks better than black when its all polished up and shinin

What is the X plan?

I walked into Downtown Ford here in Sacramento (never been there before) and bought an 02 off the lot (had just under 100 miles on it) for 3% over the dealers invoice.....$32,900 plus tax and license. Up in Oregon you don't have the tax. It is a matter of personal taste but if I were doing it now, I'd go with the 03, especially for the minamal difference in $. There's only going to be one 100th Anniv. edition!

Personally, I envy ecm747x. My truck and my Ultra Classic are different years and do not match.....but at least I got them and the Ultra Classic is paid for and has already brought home two trophies for "Best American Made Dresser" at ride in bike shows.

Now I'm on my way with the truck.....does it ever end?

Well last night I decided I want to get an 03HD which means it will be put on hold for a month or two while I save enough for a decent down payment. However I learned not to say things like "trade-in" and "get a ford(or whichever brand)" around a vehicle that I already have. My Dakota decided it no longer liked its water pump, alternator, battery and apparently the ECM or something electrical as all of the above went out yesterday and last night. What a pain in the butt. So the truck is now on hold for a month or two.

JCZ,

I will be taking pics of my combo this weekend. Have been waiting for some of the 8" of snow to burn off we received Christmas eve. It is a great feeling to have your bike paid off. I saved up the cash for mine and bought it outright. Wish I could have for the truck but with the "A" plan and $1000 off of that made for a low price. Plus my 01 SCrew was paid for. So the $17,000 they gave me for that sure made my payments very affordable with 5.5 on the rate.
I can't wait to take both of my Harleys' to shows. Both match so well. WIll look great pulling the bike behind the truck to shows....I have about finished my Ultra Classic for the spring thaw, and there is a show comming up in April at my local H.O.G. chapter. Looking forward to seeing how they both do....

Lightning The Wings,

You will not be disappointed in the 03. It is certainly a head turner. With it being the 100th anniversary edition it may even hold a little more value, just speculation on my part though. Have fun and keep it between the lines......

Now I'm lookin forward to those pics. A brother up in Red Bluff just picked up his 03 Ultra Classic (two tone) and is thinking about the truck.....I'll be forwarding your flicks to him. Where are you getting such low rates? I've got excellent credit, the best I can find here is 5.9%
