1 mpg increase?
I was inputing my gas reciepts into my Ownersite account, and I noticed an added 1 mpg difference starting in December. This could be attributed to a couple of things,
I added a homemade ram air using 4" dryer hose, although the inlet is a vaccum attachment that reduces to 3". I did this on November 24th (then drove 1200 miles to Las Vegas and did not see that gain)
The weather has been getting colder steadly, but this mpg increase was sudden (one fill up).
I have been driving a little (Emphasizing 'little') bit nicer since I got my speeding ticket.
I thought maybe my computer had to adjust to the ram air and now I am seeing the benifits???
BTW the bill from my 91 in a 65 mph speed ticket is $300
not including traffic school. for more info, see other thread.

so what mpg are you getting?
i always keep saying i'm gonna check mine, but i always forget.
i wanted to do it when the truck was stock, but never did, then i got the tonneau cover and wanted to check with that, never did, then i got the intake and wanted to check with that, never did
i've only checked it twice in 2 years. LoL. on the way down to south carolina i got 19mpg with cruise control at 70 mph for most of the way, AC off, but a loaded bed and 4 passengers.
the 2nd time i check it, was when i was down there, truck unloaded, but AC always on cuz it was so hot, stop and go driving like crazy (a friggin 4 minute redlight to get out of the development we sayed in
) and the mileage went down to 12.
one of these days i'll check it to see what i get for just daily driving though. LoL

I am really into checking the gas mileage because I like seeing how off the sticker is.
Stock driving 60% city and 40% highway I was getting roughly 16mpg.
After the K&N Intake FIPK same type of driving I am getting around 18 mpg.
I am the type of driver that has my heat on full blast with the windows down and all my add-on stereo stuff going, so I don't get the best mileage per gallon.

A 1 mpg increase over what time period? A lot of things can contribute to changes in mpg. Driving conditions, styles, fuel, freeway vs surface streets. The list goes on and on. A 1 mpg increase is not that much and you say you are driving it a little 'nicer'.
It's kinda like those infomercials and commercials for products to add to your fuel and you will get better gas mileage. The consumer is certain they will get better mileage so they change their driving style a little which, low and behold, improves their mileage. Most of those products have not been scientifically proven to improve your mileage.
My mileage varies mainly due to how I drive it. I noticed a slight increase in mpg after I had the truck a while since I don't put my foot in it as much as I used to.
I do notice I am not as patient a driver as I was when I had my little Ranger...wonder why??
I think maybe patience and horsepower are related! LoL.

and yes, before a newbie calls me an idiot...i am just kidding
LoL!
I was getting 12mpg, sometimes less, but never more than 13. Now I am getting consistant 13.5s - and it happened in one fill up.
As far as keeping records, when I joined this site I hit the link to the Ownersite as well. It is really nice for keeping records on all the money you spend on your truck as well as, oil changes, gas consumption, tire wear etc.
For my gas records, I just make sure I fill up every single time, and I write my odometer reading on the reciept (you have to fill up every time to get the mpg readings).
I have spent more than $1200 on gas alone since I bought the truck in late July.
EDIT: I just changed the tire pressure from about 30 psi (from dealership) to 38-40, but I was actually seeing this mpg increase before I changed the pressure

Wow, Josh!!! 28% increase in mpg!! I am going to order one right now!!! (BTW, for all the newbies that didn't reply to HD356's post, I'm kidding too!)
4WL HOGG, you could be seeing a difference now that the truck is broken in more too. Still a 1 mpg increase is not that much and a lot of factors could contribute to a small improvement like that.
