sounds like you also took the truck without permission (even if its to do a favor)
so add theft to the charges.
Maybe your Dad new it was expired. If you had asked to take the truck he may have told you that.

You are the driver of the vehicle , as such you are responsible for everything in the vehicle (condoms or anything else) . The law doesn't care who left there , you are responsible for that and the vehicle being in a "safe and legal" operating condition.
As for your harrassment from the law . You have my sympathy .
If being an immature jerk keeps me from getting a stupid ticket then so be it. I was trying to make a point about vehicle contents as well so you wouldn't get hammered on that one. If you and everyone else with you are underage and there was sixpack of beer in the truck left by your dad then you would get tagged possesion .
