Hooray For Gun Confiscation
I'm new to the boards and was brousing through the topics and found this one, which I have deffinite thoughts on. It has been a while since anyone brought up the free speach issue and burning the flag. There would be no first ammendment without the second to start with but let me tell you where I stand on the flag burning issue. I spent 20 years in the Army defending the rights of someone to protest, to include burning a flag, as long as it is your flag. I have one flying in my front yard and an attempt to burn it will be a one way trip.
this quote that I love says it very well.
"It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the
press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of
speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the
freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves
beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the
protester to burn the flag." ~Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, Sergeant, USMC

GREAT THREAD
This is a great thread. As a new member of the fourm I am impressed with all of the intelligent people here. I see very good points being made by everyone.
There is no clear cut answer, if there were there would be no debate.
I love Guns. I am clearly Pro Gun. I must admit however, I do not feel it is the constitution that gives me the right to bear arms. I feel that the fact the my life is so valuabe as to be worthy of protecting gives me the right to do what ever is needed to protect myself and my loved ones. I feel that right comes from God who has placed such value on our very small human lives.
I feel it is my job as a man to do what I think is right, no matter what that might be, no matter how unpopular it is. I have great faith in men who do what they think is right, even If I do not agree with what they are doing. I know that their heart is in the right place.
I will continue to do what I feel is right, even if my goverment both high and low does not agree. I hope you all will do the same. After all, the Country does not belong to the Goverment, rather the Goverment and the Country belong to us, the Citizen's.
