97 F150

Newbie alert. A buddy is looking to purchase a 97 F150 with a 4.6 ? I beleive (the smaller engine). It has 100k on on it. What should he be looking for as far as service work already performed? (timing belt?). how are the transmissions in these things? any advice?

Thanks

Ask your friend for the vin# so I can run you a carfax report as to the history of the vehicle. One of mine had 108k miles with no problems so far. Also a 4.6. I havent had any problems with the tranny. I believe these trucks are very reliable.

97 here, 120,000 and no problems (knocking on wood) except for spark plugs and spark plug wires. Tranny strong as ever (knocking again). Good to see you Gasguzzler007, long time no post!
Yeah, tell your friend to go for the truck!

Re: 97 F150

Don't worry about a timing belt. The 4.6 has a timing chain that adjust to wear automatically.
