Question Texans !

The article I just read was about a week old or so.
It was in my newspaper.
It was about the Texan Police Departments sueing FoMoCo.
Crown Victoria's gastanks can explode when these cars are hit.

Now, the article said, it concerned 25000 patrol cars.
I repeat 25000, 25 thousand.
That must be a mistake, isn't it.
25000 is a lot.

Are there really 25000 police patrol cars in the State of Texas.

I would have to say no there is no way there are 25,000 patrol cars in Texas. Remember a few years back they were talking about wanting 100,000 police and wanted Congress to give up some money to do so. They don't even have 100,000 officers yet so I can't see Texas having 25%.

Now there may be 25,000 patrol cars nation wide I see alot of them ULGY Crown Victoria's around as police cars, most likely because they cant sale them to consumers, damn they are UGLY

Thanks,

Are there any other Ford models used as patrol cars.
I have read the article once more and it says all 25,000 patrol cars in Texas.
At first I thought these were all Crown Victoria's.

"alle 25.000 patrouilleauto's in Texas"

Translation: "all 25,000 patrol cars in Texas"

Thats weird, the city I live in uses all Crown Victorias, one Expedition, and a Windstar minivan(D.A.R.E.). They have been using the crown vics for quite a few years now.

And ad for the Frd veichles used in police work I have seen Crown Victorias of course, Expeditions, Explorers, Mustangs(DPS), and I have seen one F150(DPS)

BTW, when I saw the F150 it had chased down a lightning

the CHP(california) has some camaro patrol cars. i dont know if they are z28s or SS's, probly 28s but i have heard both. anyway, they are all over the bay area. i see one everyday... we also have a 65 mustang, expeditions, and rangers(help broken down cars). in LA they are using suburbans, they have more of those on the streets then they do crown vics...when its dark at least.

You may be right, I wasn't saying for a fact there were not. It just seems like an unbelievable amount of ULGY Crown Victoria Police cars for one state.

J15BIG:

I am orignally from Calif. I also remember back in the late 80's seeing some modified 5.7 Mustangs as CHP cars. They were usally on interstate 5. I actually talked with one CHP while stopping for gas and he showed me under the hood they even had headers. He also said they would smoke the Camaros.

Really!!, wow that is a lot.
So the newspaper article is right about that.

The local police here drive Mercedes.
Highway police used to drive Porsche, don't know if they still do, haven't seen one for years now.

ALL the law enforcement agencies use the CV, even some early-mid 90s models with 200K still in service, especially with the Kerr Country sherriffs office. There was a rumor that DPS was purchasing Dodge Intrepids for Highway Patrol division sure hope not. But I can see 25K in Texas, maybe even more.

OK, I know that I'm not from Texas but if you read between the lines, it sounds like the State of Texas is sueing FoMoCo, for ALL the CV that are in the State. {State, County, and City} All years included!! I'm not going to say for sure there are 25000 C.V. in Texas but Texas is a BIG state. I hope that article is wrong.

By the way, I don't think the Crown Vic's are ugly myself, I wish I owned a Police Interceptor. That would ROCK!
Just my .02 cents!

It is not clear to me if the article is referring to 25,000 C.V 's or the total of 25,000 patrol cars in Texas.(Ford models)

Fact remains that 25,000 is a lot.

Anyone got a picture of a C.V interceptor.
I don't even know how they look like.

here's some pics
http://www.nells250.homestead.com/CrownVicPolice.html
there were about 500,000 paid law enforcement "personel" in the US in 1999. 650,000 with reserves and volunteers, so i'm sure Texas has 25,000 crown vics. i'm also sure of one other thing,,,
Don't mess with Texas
