Angry Need your advice on poor dealer service

I need advice on dealer paint problem
Here is what happened:

Brought my 99 scab 4x4 to local dealer to get cracked doors and rusted door/tailgate seams fixed ..........90/10 deal, I paid 10% and ford paid 90%.

I had a few dings in my drivers door from parking lots......so I asked the body shop manager how much to fix the dents while you are doing the rest of the work? And also, I wanted my tailgate sprayed at the same time. He tells me $150.00 extra for the dings and tailgate paint, on top of my 10% to ford for rest of work.

Sounds good, so I say go ahead.

Anyway, they did the work, and I am NOT HAPPY with the quality of their work. Several problems with it:

1) There is a crack in passanger door that looks like the edge of a repair weld....I showed him this the day after I got my truck back....he blows me off by saying it could be something in the paint, keep an eye on it.

2) Looking at my BLACK PAINT, I can see allkinds of sanding scratches all over....like they used 240 grit rather than 320 grit for prep sand.......and drivers paint is "dry" not shiny.....and the frigging body work they did is WICKED BAD.....drivers door is wavy! I can't stand looking at it! I take it back and show him this, I mention that I have experience with body work, he says that mabey they should have had me do the body work?!? He agrees to buff the paint, but brushes off the body work.

3) Get the truck from buffing......I needed to polish truck due to WICKED SWIRL marks left by the KID who buffed it! Now after much work on my part, the truck is shiny, BUT the drivers door still looks crappy due to the waves in the body work! I think it is such an AMETURE job, that it actually is decreasing the value of my truck!

The one good thing is: Dealer has a girl who calls and follows-up on the work that was done, I have her number and I hinted that I was not impressed with their body shop, and that I would get back to her.

What does everyone suggest? I think the body shop is not interested in fixing the body work.

hook up with that girl, and do some body work of your own!!

no seriously, its their job to fix it the correct way I would think. thats horrible that they turned around and told you that you should have done the body work yourself.... THATS NOT YOUR JOB. thats really bad customer service. and I would be expecting to make this deal from a 90/10 to a 100/0 very quick!! if you arent able to get everything fixed the right way, and they think maybe you should do it, the least they can do is give you your money back if thats how they feel.

Im sure you are pretty furious about all this. I have had something like this happen before (not with a ford vehicle). I got my problems fixed, but after a long hard battle.

Try this

Go to the dealership & ask to speak to the General Manager or owner - show them the problems & ask what they intend to do to remedy them. If you don't get the response you feel is appropriate then tell them you will go to Ford & then go public with this. Call Ford & register a complaont. Let them know you intend to pursue this till you get satisfaction.
Next, call your local news stations. Nearly all of them have an "investigative reporter" who does stories about local citizens who get ripped of & just the publicity alone is enough to fix the problems in many cases. I'm sure the dealership will NOT want the shoddy work featured in the 6PM news! One of the guys here was able to turn his lemon truck in & get a new 1 after having a story done about his local dealer!
Good luck & keep us posted ok?

this may not help you now but in the future it could come in handy. ALWAYS look at the work before you pay. yep i learned it the hard way too.

now days i won't even sign for the warranty work until i've checked it out. once you sign or pay that's like saying you accept the work.
good luck getting your truck fixed to your satisfaction. hope it works out for you.

Call the BBB. I did that with my worthless Gateway computer. Long story short, I now own a Dell - no cost on my behalf. Also, if the delaership general manager won't help you, call Ford's customer relationship center at 1-800-392-3673. They'll work with you to get the work done right.
