So glad you asked

I was sitting at a light yesterday thinking the same thing and my dad is out of town so I can't ask him.

.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...............Here's my take on why the dots...

They;
1) Hide the sheet metal, glue and gaskets beneath them. If the glass was totally clear, you'd see all that garbage and it wouldn't look very atractive.

2) Form a visual transition from the clear part to the mldg. If the edges were totally opaque, it would look more harsh, and the windshield would look smaller, and worse, the pillar and it's blind spot would appear bigger.

3) Probably 'visually correct' any misalignment during the assembly process.

That's my guess!............................................ .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..........

The black dots are called the ceramic paint line. They are there to cover up the sealer bead between the glass and the metal, along with the edge of the headliner, etc. Gives the exterior a cleaner look.
