Grand Prix GTPs?

What are they running. Dont know much about them with the exception that they are S/C'd. There are 2door & 4 door versions. My bud has an 00 Lightning and he got rocked by a 2 door version last weekend. Keep in mind my friend has a superchip, intake and bassani. How bad are these things? Should I be worried? Thanx

Drive up to Stanton and you will see the GTP club racing there, They have a few that run in the high 12 sec range. most are in the 14 to 15 sec range. They put slicks on and gut there cars out.

Good thing i've never ran into one of them, I would have went straight to the dealer to sell the L if i lost...

The ones around my area are no challenge, I've had to embarrass a few dads throwing a few revs my direction. Or i love the ones that try to beat me when 2 lanes merge into one....I must be the line leader

They're a pretty nice deal. Very smooth ride. Took one out for a boot. A full-jam version. Digital boost gauge was pretty schweet. They got 240hp, and 280trq V6. They run a 6.7ish 0-60, and about a 15sec flat 1/4 mile. They're FWD, so they'll have more traction off the line then we do. But they weigh like 3400lbs.

the wife still hasn't let me take ours to the track yet lol,

i am dying to get it there to see what it'll do.

it's a fun car for a 4 door family mobile though.

like the l, a pulley and chip helps and wil get it into the 13's

There is a GTP at my local track that runs in the 12.6's.
You think our superchargers whine, you should here this thing.
He has a blower pulley on there thats about twice as big as stock.

He seems to have reliability problems. Broke alot of half shafts.

MY wife drives our 1998 GTP and I have my 2001 L. I have never lined up our two cars side by side and raced each other, but there is a huge market for Grand Prix performance items. I have done a few things to the Grand Prix like exhaust and a smaller pulley on the supercharger, but there is plenty more to do if you got the cash. I know how both my cars drive and the L is faster!!! A GTP has 240 HP stock, and I am pushing 255 with what I have done. I bet there are some guys driving GTPs that are well over 300 horses.

I would watch out for guys with Ram Air hoods on their GTPs. The supercharger on the Grand Prix does not have an intercooler like the L and so the engine compartment gets very hot. There are numerous hoods and packages available for Ram Air for the GTP. With Ram Air, a GTP owner is looking at another 20 Hp.

For instance, I used to big into the Grand Prix forums before I got the L. There is one dude that realls has a fast GTP and he took his GTP to the track and did 200 mph! I don't remember the specifics but I do remember that he had a buddy that got him into Talladega.

Below are two Grand Prix sites. One of them has the fastest recorded times at the track for the 1/4 mile.

Exactly. I met a nice guy up that track was running 13.5's. He was explaining to me how now intercoolers really prevented them from going faster. Once you crank up the boost the heat messes with them and thats where reliability becomes iffy.

Lightbulb Stock GTP run

Last year - my buddy ran his GTP... it was totally stock w/ like 75k miles. His third run was a 14.46!!! I was impressed. I had driven it not long before that
Can we say TORQUE STEER.? That drives me nutz! How you supposed to put a true 'performance' vehicle through twisties when you can't feel the road?? and fighting the power?

Front wheel drive drag car = oxymoron
more moronic than anything...

my 3 cents...
