I had 235-70-R16s on my 1998 F150 and ordered some 255-70-R16s made by yokohama last week. I got them installed at my neighbors shop. Well I took it on the road and now everytime I try to brake hard the truck pulls to the right! WTF is that? Anyone know why? He told me it was because of my tires but its not like they are much larger then the originals. And besides, these are the tires I have on my Expy and they fit without a problem. BTW, I also had my neighbor replace my front brake pads. You guys think he messed up and is trying to blame it on the tires?
BTW, the tires are great. They are yokohama AT+2 and I got them at tirerack.

The tires have no idea whether your braking or not. Tires would pull all the time, you have a brake problem. There are a few things it could be. If he let the caliper hang by the brake hose when he did the brakes, or even if the caliper accidentally fell and pulled on the brake hose that could cause the problem.
A loose front suspension part could also cause it, but considering you just had the brakes done that would be my first suspect.

sounds to me like he didnt know what he was doing . did he use anti sieze on the sliding parts of the calipers? did he use anti squeal on the back side of the pads? or maybe he put it on the front side of the pads?......lmfao .

an easy test to determine if it is a tire problem is to switch them from side to side, if it pulls the other direction its prob a tire issue. good luck

One simple thing to check is the tire pressure. If you have a low tire the truck will have a tendency to pull to that side. Rears can have a smaller effect too.
It does take a tank or so of gas for new brake pads to seat in.
It is also possible that wheel bearing grease or something got on the rotors or pads during install.
If the brakes continue to pull I'd suggest bringing it back to the shop for a second look.

I've had this problem caused by tires before. Some tires have lateral pull to them. I had a set of tires on a Ranger once that drove me nuts with this problem. It was nothing but the tires, as soon as I wore them out and got a new set of different tires the problem disappeared. Check everything the others mentioned and switch the tires left to right, if it still does it, it is the tread design.
Thanks for the replys guys. I told my neighbor, the guy that did the work and owns his own shop, and he told me to drive the truck for a few hundred miles and see what happens. I had him take the truck to the shop again and he said that they looked at everything and could not find anything wrong. He said its probably the tires. The thing is, I have these same tires on my Expy and there is nothing wrong. Same size and everything. I think its probably something with the brakes. I will drive it for a few days and see if anything changes. Once again, thank you for the helpful replys.

GG - I have seen this often - after brake job, or before. If brakes pull right (or left) it is probably something wrong with the left (or right) as the case may be. When it pulls in one direction - it usually means that side is working - the other side is not. I really think the left has grease, or something on them.
Good luck

It is possibily the caliper on the left side not working properly or not functioning at all. it pulls to the right because the right side caliper is the only one working properly.. whoever did the brakes should know this...
