Sunoco 94

Today while filling up my truck with 94 octane, I see a sign on the pump that says "contains up to 10% ethanol"

Does Sunoco in America add ethanol to their 94 octane, or is it only in Canada?

I wonder what kind of affect ethonal has on my performance.
Reason I'm asking is when I filled up at a US Sunoco, I don't remember seeing anything on the pump about adding ethanol.

I know this is not the best place for this post, but y'all seem like a friendly group who know a lot of stuff.

Thanks
Habibi

Almost all gas in the U.S. has ethanol or other oxygenate such as MTBE. MTBE though is being banned in many states because of its fondness for groundwater. Leaky tanks result in the toxic MTBE being found in the groundwater.

I have a question though...why exactly do you run 94 octane? It is completely uneccesary unless you are running a computer chip or a high compression performance engine. 94 octane not only wastes money it can also be harmful to your engine. Carbon buildup is heavier since combustion is so much cooler and you may even lose performance/mileage due to its reduced energy content.

I started using 94 ever since my Diablo performance chip was installed. The SVT dealer who did the install advised me to use the highest octane gas I could get.

The higher the octane, the better the chip works was what I was told.

Hi Habibi

Nice newbie thread you started here...lol

Anyway, something I noticed the other day at the Shell pumps(I like to switch around every now and again). Their V-Power, or high test has a sticker stating that it doesn't contain any ethanol at all. Their mid and regular grades state up to 10%

that is the additive in winter fuel, right? I hope IN bans it and just put reg fuel in the pumps all year long. Winter fuel costs more per gallon and you get less HP, TQ, and mpg. What a rip off!!

I believe most "winter" gas has 10% ethanol. I've seen a sticker as high as 20% at a station in Dallas Texas. Supposedly stations are required to post the % ethanol in the gas, but i bet that gets overlooked more ofen than not. I can tell you the 20% effected the mileage noticeably... Quit using that station when I noticed the sticker.

Tell that to all the illegals who abandon their vehicles in the middle of an 8 lane interstate during an ice storm!! It looks like armagedon. No flashers, no attempt to make it to the shoulder... just get out and leave it. True story from 2 years ago in Dallas Texas on the Dallas North Tollway.

I think just about every gas station in Indiana has a sticker on the pumps that say it may contain up to 10%.

3 days out of every two years doesn't constitute a winter. It's just a few really cold days! Certainly not enough to constitue a need for "Winter Gas." I was there for that one. Worse was a few years before that one though...at least in the Addison area where I lived.

Ya i think it's like 10% here too. My truck has not been running as good lately and i think the gas is the reason?? I have been getting bad spark knock lately and it will not go away I have tried different gas stations and it makes no difference. I think i am gonna try running 89 octane on my 87 performance tune to fix the spark knock!!!
Anyone else running custom tunes and getting bad spark knock since the winter fuel switch??
