could it be that you're shooting into the sun?

i don't know if you can get different kinds of filters for digital cameras, but you could try those too.

Question

I've got it shooting a little better now, but still not as good as it should be. This is on an overcast day(cloudy) It should be making nice sharp prints, right? I turned it on one day, and it was shooting like this outdoors, it was pretty decent before. If I shoot straight at the ground it seems to pick up the correct image okay, but anything from 45* and up it washes out and can't read colors correctly. Puzzling and a little disappointing, I expected a Nikon product to be a little more dependable,,,,98

Here's the slightly better pic, the color is still not correct, but much better!!

Exclamation

I was trying it in auto, and manual. I tried white balance, exposure, and tried zooming out as well. That was one of the manuals suggestions. Using the cloudy function helped a little, but not that much. The battery is charging right now, went dead while I was trying to get a decent pic, lol.,,,,98

Is your dig. camera memory card compatible? If it has a slot for a memory card try one. It gives it better resolution. And don't point it at direct sunlight as it will damage internal mechanisms.<---as if you did'nt already know.

Red face

Yeah, I have three different cards so far. None of them seem to change how the pics come out though. So, if this camera is toast (which I am guessing it is by this point) do you even repair something like this, or is it cheaper and better to buy a new one??? This is a subject I was reintroduced to yesterday at Sears. My cordless drills' batteries were useless(wouldn't charge), and the price of two new batteries was more than the cost of a new drill with two batteries and a charger, LOL!! Ridiculous!,,,,98

If your camera is still under warranty, take it and have it fixed under warranty. It's better than buying a new one because they are expensive!

It is pretty easy to screw up a deeply hidden setting on some cameras... Look for a total reset button. Mine has a reset that pust everything back to the way it came out of the box...

Since yours is still taking decent movies and movies on most oftheses cameras are nothing more than serial jpgs saved as mpeg or mov files I would find out how to reset the thing before returning it

There are also formware updates for a number of Nikons here

No reset button, or else it's a function in the seemingly 50 menus this cam has I have tried everything, even reading the manual I guess I'm waiting 4 days for a Nikon person to send me a two sentence e-mail that says nothing. That's what they did last time.,,,,,98

I don't get why it takes beautiful clear pics until I open an exterior door???????

Tried intentionally screwing up my camera to see if I could duplicate your problem. Nope, can't take a picture that bad with my worst settings!
