tach standard on 5 spd

I ordered a new F150 XL WT 4.6L 5spd with 3.55 posi. I had just driven a 97 XLT v8 5spd that had a tach. Didn't think to order one

I have a 1998 XL V6 and it doesnt have one. I think that because you are ordering a V8 and because it is a 5 speed it should have one. I mean seriously, how else would you now when to change gears if you didnt have a TACH. Maybe by the sound

Thumbs up How to shift without a tach...

From a stop, stay into the the throttle until the front end eases past the Dodge, slam bang into second so hard the Tundra don't want to play any more. Check mirrors for Chevys, go to third with a quarter second punch of the clutch. Any other makes within a truck length may necessitate slipping into their lane.

Ok, where were we, oh yeah third. Now, fourth is your Ace in the hole, be done with it and get to fifth. Anything still threatning from the rear and it's back to fourth. Now, might be a good time to look ahead and check traffic conditions. If you haven't hit nothing continue on to the next light and,

repeat.

(Try not to pit until a Caution flag)

Yeah, you'd think logically that a tach would be standard on a Manual.... they seem pointeless to me(except for being eye candy) on an automatic.

Thumbs up

Actually the tach on my automatic Windstar saved my butt.
A transmission sensor went out and the tach was my only 'early' indicator of a problem. Caught it early and saved compounding the problem. I had heard of other Windstars that started like mine and progressed to serious transmission/engine damage. I wondered if they were GL models without the tach combined with a loud radio or full of screaming kids.
