What are those.....

.....little black "dots" all around the edge of the windshield? I have them around the rear slider windows too. I bet they aren't for decoration! I just never could figure out the purpose unless it had something to do w/the defroster but then it wouldn't be on my back windows too!
Thanks for the help guys! BTW - here's a valid ? that won't fit in any other Forum, at least as far as I can tell! I have 2 more coming too! See why SOME posts here should count?????

Yep!

They are to me for 1 reason - I rarely ever post in other Forums because I can't add anything you guys haven't already said. Everyone here knows so much more than I do about these trucks. I do however post here since the questions are general enough for me to have that basic knowledge. I am out of place in other Forums & while I read them & learn from them I rarely answer. If this is the case I may as well stop responding here completely. I did enjoy seeing the "ratings" & where I stood in the list of posters. Now I will never advance because I refuse to asnwer posts I know nothing about & "pad my posts" in other Forums just fo rthat reason.
I'll give this a little bit of time but I think I won't be here much except for chat. The Forums just aren't any fun anymore & as far as being missed I doubt anyone will even notice I'm gone. Yeah Swofford - the post count does matter to me that much. No hard feelings but the way you're entitled to not care I am also entitled to care & I do. This is 1 more way I see the boards going downhill but hey - that's just my opinion & it seems that is not important here at all. But, for the record - whether posts count here or not this IS the kind of valid post that belongs here & has no better place to be so I have proved that much at least.

Are you saying the only reason you post here is for the post credit? Without that number there is no point in any of this to you? Credit or not, I enjoy most of your posts. I don't post often because the number means nothing. The odd time you might help someone or recieve help is worth much more than that number. I don't know why we need credit for any posts. I'm sorry if I upset you or anyone else but that is my 2 cents. Thanks everyone for all your help.

those little black dots are aesthetic. Back in the day, windows had nice chrome trim. Now front and rear (and little quater windows too) are mounted fluch with the mounting hardware right on the windows. That part is blacked out so you cant see ht ehardware. The black dots are a transition from opaque black to clear.

Should have posted this in "Other Body" so we could both have a post count.

Cowlady, I personally enjoy your posts, and I think a lot of us would miss you if you were gone. You have helped me more than anybody on this board, and not through any other forum except for General Discussion.
Thad, I think the point she is trying to make is that it kind of make her feel unimportant that she doesn't answer posts in other forums, and now she feels like the ones that she does post don't count and aren't recognized. Cowlady, you ARE important to this board, post count or not, I am sure that almost everyone on this board would agree with me. C'mon everybody, tell her!

CL, if it makes you feel any better, I'm more than willing to change my username and go back to zero just for you. Other than that, I don't know what else to say that hasn't already been said...

As to those little dots, they're Ford's answer to cutting down on microwave exposure just like the little holes in the windows of microwave ovens. The holes keep the microwaves in and the dots keep them out! Simple!

I'm so touched!

First of all, thanks for the answers! It was bugging me as I couldn't figure it out - I looked for obvious answers & they eluded me! Now I know better!
As to the posting problem - I am deeply moved by the responses here. I didn't think it mattered to anyone whether I posted or not. That floored me.
Dennis - I will email Steve & FORBID him to set your count to zero just for me! I appreciate the offer since I know it took you a long time to get where you are & you do post in other forums so your not going to mind as much that these posts don't count.
Some have said I should post elsewhere so I did an "experiment" - I posted something I was honestly curious about in the brakes Forum about the same time I posted this. To date I have received a whole 2 replies & 1 was from Dennis! The point I tired to make is I am not "known" outside this forum & tend to be ignored by the guys who aren't regulars here. Also, it's more convenient to post in the 1 forum & not jump all over to find the posts I made & get the replies - I usually can get all my replies on just the 1 page here.
My reason for posting here is not to get the credit - this is the only Forum where I have made true friends & they are here for me as I am for them. When I venture into other Forums it's mostly guys I don't know & they treat me as a newbie or outsider - at least that's how it feels. In this Forum I can sometimes help out, even w/ my limited knowledge & I try to do so as often as possible. So, because I have real freinds here & am known only here I am being penalized for sticking here. If I cave in & try other Forums it's a case of waiting & hoping they will bother to reply. That's what isn't fair. Something as simple as an "off-topic only" forum w/o credit is asking for the impossible I guess. When I look over some of the other Forum's I see that they are rarely posted in but THEY will receive credit! Something is not right w/this picture. Steve is webmaster & has the right to do what he wants but this is not fair & I won't stop saying that.
Out of respect to my friends here I will post occasionally but it sure won't be as often as I used to. I guess the other sites I also belong to will be my choice for posting simply because things make more sense there. All posts are treated equally. I am not penailized there for having 1 favorite forum nor am I made to feel as unimportant as I do now by the rules of the sites. I am & hope to always be an Online member but a good # of our membership NEVER posted even once so my cutting down won't make me less of a member.
You know Steve - if I were mean spirited or immature I'd stop going to chat & let it fade away. I have been in there EVERY nite for over a year now except for maybe 10 or 12 when I was sick or away & have worked hard to keep it going. In all honesty, some of the guys who now post regularly in the various forums became more active members after stopping into chat to ask a question. I have done a darn good job of promoting the site & am happy to do this - I just wish I mattered a little more than I seem to. I will openly admit - I am very hurt by your decision. I have said as much on this as I need to so as far as I am concerned it is a done deal. You have made your decision & so have I.
Thanks again guys - I'll stop in & post a reply from time to time but you know you can always find me in chat if you need anything.
Steve - if you read this I think it would be a good idea to lock this thread - for your sake as well as mine.

CL my post count has been 'frozen' too, because as you know I have been working on my office every day and only come here while polyurethane, paint or glue is drying. I may have some answers for the other sections, but in some cases it would take too long to type them. I do read them though, but I haven't replied in a while.
I think Steve is just trying to find a quick fix to people posting useless stuff, and without naming names and pointing fingers, he just universally made that rule. If it doesn't help get the search back, I imagine he will discontinue the 'non post count'
If you look back at some posts he has closed in the past, you will see what types of posts he finds appropriate. Typ 98% but lately about 85%.
As far as getting help in the form of a mod, he has thought about it, but if you do any reasearch, you will discover that mods take quite a bit of heat, and the person who feels they are being picked on by the mod, as often people do, will just email the webmaster to complain anyway, not really saving the webmaster any time by having a mod in the first place.
Right now, Steve is focusing his attention at optimizing the site (read: racking his brain at identifying the cause of the server load and how to get search working again) for us all to enjoy, so please have some faith in him right now when he really could use it.
If you quit posting I will have to drive to NY and spank you!
(we could sell tickets and donate the money to F150online LOL)

I'll make you a deal

Tell you what - you drive here & spank Raoul & I'll go back to posting! Sorry Raoul!
There is a lot of sense in what you said but there's a "fly in the ointment" & that is Steve NEVER said this is temporary. It would be easier to have faith in him were he ever to reverse himself. I may not know a lot but 1 thing I have learned & that is he never does that. This is permanent - I'll guarantee it.
I am not leaving the site but I am not going to be as frequent a visitor here simply because I feel this is a soultion that serves no purpose. I admit - I don't know anything about servers - never had 1 & never will & the only thing they seem to be good at is breaking down - not just here but all over the ENTIRE web (try banking when the server takes a "vacation"!) but I haven't seen any decrease in posting. Going to a "creditless" system isn't doing it & if the whole point of this is to cut back on posts then it's already failed! So what we've ended up with is a penalty system for GD posts & still no search & the problem is as bad as before! It hasn't helped 1 iota (like that word? It's an OLDIE!) & to me, in my vast ignorance it won't help.
Can I assume the server is a piece of hardware? If so, wouldn't there be a warranty on it? Can it be returned or fixed under warranty? Let's hope it doesn't have a warranty like Ford has in many instances such as our door cracks! We'd be screwed for sure in that case.

A server is a piece of hardware run by software. Steve from what I can understand is having hell with the software that runs this site. Hes working like mad, and there is a thread on another board dunno where, that describes it in detail. Its horrid. Its a pain, its obviously thankless. No one seems to care about the ungodly hours Im sure hes put forth to try and get search back they've just whined it wasnt there. Reset me to 0 or -90,000. I just want to be able to access the info on this site and the awesome peopl, you included, that come here.

I can not believe you. I know for a fact you know more than you think/claim you do. Any woman (or man for that fact) that even thinks about changing their plugs on a module motor has to have one of two things... knowledge or certifiably insane and you are both, LOL, JK. I know I do not come to chat very often at all but when I do you are the first to greet me and I remember it that way since day 1. I have also noticed you treat everyone else the same way when they enter chat.
As far as the post/count thing I have no feeling either way. I have made this my top site for one reason. I like the fact that I get a email reply to any post I post on and I like going back to check what others after me have said. I post on all sorts of threads and can't keep up with the ones I have talked on without that feature. I do go to the other site at times but mostly when this one is down or I update my gallery as they only offer emails to posts you started. Anyways either way I miss talkin to ya and hope you stay or come by often.

CL,

I can understand that post count is important to you, but you're making it sound like you aren't contributing without it.

Like the others, I enjoy your posts and I don't care if the count is 20 or 20,000. Quite a few of your posts could go in the other areas of the site. As for people not answering your brake post because they don't know you I don't think that is the case. It's one of the slower topics, and it's a weekend. Many of the other subject areas have people that answer just about anything that gets posted. Just like here in GD, you often get to "meet" people and learn something about them.

Do a little "lurking" in the other forum areas. You'll find that even in the midst of questions, answers and opinions a lot of us find time to mess with each other, joke and have a good time. Raoul is just as funny in the Engines section as he is here.

Steve had to do something and he did it. I'll second Dennis's idea, you can have some of my post count, because it means nothing to me. I don't make an opinion of someone based on their count and I doubt anyone else does either. Besides, it's almost to the point of sounding like a male thing..... bragging about the size of your post count.
