You'll NEVER see me put my lights on!!!

Does anyone else have a problem with allowing other drivers to see you turn on your lights at dusk? I have to do it only when I can get away with it unseen.
Sometimes I drive into the night before I get a chance to turn them on without anyone noticing.
Is this normal?

Oh NO! You must be young (Or I used to be weird) cuz I used to do that, but I didn't wait as long as you.
I think I was thinking that if I turn them on now, (while every one is looking) people will think I just discovered I am stupid, like DOH! Lights! Oh yeah, there they are. No wonder everything looked dark.
Now, I don't care what people think. Get over it. Life is short, and yours may be shorter if the other drivers can't see you.

no it's not normal ... you're weird !

just kidding .. I wait until no oncomming cars are approaching , so as not to distract / blind/ or give false warning of something . but you got to turn them on sometime even if you are in heavy traffic.

Well, if no one's oncoming but people are behind me, I wait until I have a reason to press the brake and while the brake lights are lit I sneak the headlights on.

My dad has a motor home with a trailer behind it. He says that when someone is following him around dusk and he wants to turn his lights on without being humiliated, he just waits until there's a bridge or a bad bump in the road. He turns his parking lights on and off real quick to simulate a wiring problem at the end of which he leaves the parking lights on.
The headlights are easy to sneak on at the next secret opportunity.

Duh, Why are you "sneaking" your lights on? Besides, I never, ever, touch the headlight switch! ennis

WOW, Fourhour, you're cool. I have the autolamp too but I'm just too embarrassed to turn it on.
What if there is a bunch of oncoming vehicles and your headlights just so happen to come on while they are watching, that would suck.
It would feel as though they have something on you, like they're better than you.

Hey TWERNER, I enjoyed reading this thread of yours. I did the same thing and never consciously thought about it. How astute of you to verbalize it.
I have Autolamp now. When I drive down a treelined street the lights turn on and off and oncoming traffic thinks there is radar ahead.

By the way, when I was your age I was in the same line of work.
When I strapped on that toolbag I felt like a gunslinger with my sheetrock hammer hanging low.

I was getting $2 a board when you were born, (split three ways)

Back in the day, it was all 8 foot ceilings, your wooden bench was the right height to put your head to work. I wore a beanie and the paper padded hats.
I hated hanging garage ceilings with 5/8 FireCode. had to stiff arm it.

Sincerely,
A First Class Drywall Man

Usually I turn my lights on before I leave. I love the foglight mod where you can turn them on with the parking lights! I usually do that around 6:00 pm when it's still light outside, but it's starting to get dark. I don't have a problem with turning my lights on while driving, except for the fact that it takes 5 minutes to turn them all on! j/k, but it takes a few switches before they're all on. Oh well, 14 headlights has to catch up with you sometime. I ended up having to buy a diesel-rated battery (1180 amps!) to keep all the lights in check!
