Lightbulb WHY NOT...

...Delete all posts over 6 months old in the General Discussion Forum? Hell, delete all posts over 3 months old for that matter. Wouldn't that help cut down on server load?

I really hate to see the postings in this forum change in any way. Deleting older posts shouldn't be all that much of a big deal since hardly anything technical is discussed here. Besides, if it is discussed here, then deleting it will teach us to post in the proper forums.

Oh hell, I just looked at the oldest post and it's from January, so disregard the above...

You all apparently haven't learned anything! Just looking through the posts on this page alone, I can see steve's reasoning! I try to keep my posts to something constructive, not just a comment that might be funny or lighthearted. I mean, I try to be funny just like anyone else, but I try to keep pointless posts down to a minimum. I can't say that I have never done posts that don't amount to much, but I do try to control them. I agree with Steve. Delete everything that is dead and don't allow posts here to count.

BTW... sorry if I seem pissy... I'm stressed with my Job

So what is a padded post? Is it that thingie at the end of football field that holds up the goal posts? Has anybody actually read all the posts in this forum? 52,000+

Okay, after reading the above quoted post, I'm really feeling stupid... I have my settings to show stuff that's less than 30 days old, that's why I thought posts prior to January of this year were already deleted. So, I guess I'll go back to my original recommendation to just delete all the posts that are more than 6 months old in this forum.

I guess I could have edited my original post and covered up my stupidity, but I figure I gotta show you all that I'm human and can make one mistake in 3 years.

Eliminate the "search" function if trying to save space. I recall a post somewhere about a year ago where someone "bitched" about repeat questions and suggested the user go to the search function. At the time, as well as now, I feel the repeat questions are what keeps these boards, and others, functioning and attractive to new users. So what if it's been mentioned numerous times before. Don't read it if it does'nt suit your needs. ennis

Steve,

If you want to save some space take a close look at the "L" section. 198,000+ posts. There is a post in there; https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=67528
"Cleaning L There this weekend..first time". Why was that not moved to another section? That would force The L owners to look in BODY-General Care for cleaning tips. Why not remove the L section and create a 5.4 L engine section just like the V6 engine section? The only real difference between an L and a regular F is under the hood.

I remember when GD was pretty baren. The two best and longest threads are "Whats in a name?" and the "Relatively Clean Truck Jokes" that I started. GD started to gain attention, and occassionaly we would have little post wars, but nothing that lasted longer than a day. Once, for instance, I went way back and replied to every thread started by Fast46triton because I knew he would get a email every time I did. I did that until page one was filled with posts he started, and then I stopped. When he figured out what I was doing, he got me back, but then he stopped. I think we knew we would get in trouble, and people would get mad at us for messing up the first page.
With so many members now, it isn't really fair to Steve or the other members to act that childish. It was fun though but not worth srewing up the search.

See what threads Steve has locked because he felt they were useless.
This Page
He was right to do that of course. I was embarrased, but I posted the TP one because some one else kept posting personal questions, and I was trying to be funny.
Anyway, GD is how we all got to know each other besides knowing what we drive.
To bad we can't "hand pick" what to delete, so read all the old stuff you want now, before it's gone.

Unhappy

Stop it. You're making me cry thinking about the good old days.
