Whippy radio antenna
Whippy radio antenna
Been a looong time since I've visited this site - started here when I bought my 1997 F150 in Dec. 1996.
Both my 1997 F150 and my wife's 1998 Expy have stock radio antenna and those things can set up a harmonic oscillation at speeds above 50mph. They start to oscillate about in the middle of the antenna and increase in oscillation until the antenna is really moving and then slow down and in a second or so, they speed up again - then slow down and then speed up again.
Is this going to cause metal fatigue, or is normal?
To change the post just a bit, is there a replacement antenna that 1) would solve the oscillation, and 2) improve FM reception?
Thanks in advance from an original(old) member.

I would think that this would take an awfully long time for the antenna to break, as for reception, I couldn't tell you anything. I have never looked for a better antenna, maybe someone else knows what's up with it?
By the way, welcome back!
