Thumbs up How many of us use a CB?

Anyone? I have an old Radio Shack CB that i use once and a while, but i just bought a Cobra a while ago but haven't hooked it up yet. I only ever use it if i'm going to be on the interstate for a while. I've listened to some pretty good conversations too (some X-rated)

I have a RCI 2970 in my 250. I love it, I mainly stick to Side Band and FM while in the boonies. But its definatley fun, Ive got a Texas Star 500 Watt Linear on it as well.

I got a CB awhile back for a road trip. I hardly used it the first six months or so. Then I got curious. Now I know quite a few CBers, some of them even drive fords.
There are a few Local Yokals around here the run so much power, the Truckers have to use a different channel when they get near town. When I arrived back at the airport from vacation (an hour and a half away) and had to ask for the right direction to get back on the freeway, they all asked if I knew "so and so" one of the local loud guys.
Anyway, I only have a Uniden, and mostly stay off the BIG channel. I can handle the language, but I don't have enough power to get over them. Thats OK people know what channel to find me on. It's kinda nice to chat with people on their way to work while I am working.

A buddy of mine who lives in Wyoming has a Ranger, and he had something done to it and now it puts out massive amounts of power and he's able to talk to people all across the country. He raised some guy in Minnesota once (from WY). It was amazing.

Ive got a handheld one with like 40 channels that I got as a gift at one time. I use it to get traffic reports from the local truckers when I go on a road trip. They are constantly on the look out for cops and have definately saved my @$$ a few times.

I was right into it at one time. At that time CB was illegal in UK. It was a bit of an underground movement. Then they legalised it. That just took the fun out of it.

On side band its easy to get anyone across the country, even the globe under the right conditions. Its a blast to drive down the road and get some one clear across the US.

I have a Wal-Mart cheapo CB with a weather channel in my Pathfinder with an 8' antennae. It came out of my much-modified Dodge Ramcharger that was used for the family camping rig. Up here in Idaho, there are a lot of logging trucks on the back roads in the mountains and there is usually a sign telling you what CB channel to be on so you can listen and know when to pull over.
Now that we have the F150, I'll have to get another CB for it, since it will be our family camping rig now.

I use one every day when I'm driving my Peterbilt. They are very useful for avoiding speed traps, traffic back-ups, etc. My biggest gripe with them is the foul language some people seem obliged to use on them. I can swear with the best of them, but I don't walk into a room full of people and do it, which is essentially what you're doing on the CB. As Dad used to say "You're showing your ignorance." Most of us aren't that way but the few that are have to make their voices heard. I spend a lot of my time on the channels other than 19. It's a lot more civilized there.

I had a cheapy cb in my truck with a 8 foot firestick antenae that I use when I go 4 byin, but that hasnt been too much lately since my wife pregnant so I took it out. Plus I didnt really like the redneck look that it gave my truck seeing that I live in Oakland and all.

The link above will show the GRIPPER (model F2) antenna mount.

I've had CBs before but when I ordered y 01 L, I had misgivings about---mounting an antenna. Didn't want to drill thru the bed as I have on my 97 xlt(fishin' truck), so I worried about this until I discovered the GRIPPER antenna mount. It is amazing!.. It 'grips'(duh!) the front bed edge good enough to get a good 'ground' connection but it does not mar the finish. It does have two sharpened 'points' that penetrates the paint--on the 'front' side of the bed--between the bed and the cab--and under the 'lip' on the front edge--in other words, where the two small paint 'holes' will never be seen--without a very small mirror. They are super-strong and if you put a quick-disconnect on it you can still park inside your garage as I do. Btw, you can feed the antenna cable thru either of the vents at bottom of the rear of the cab--even the connector will slide thru--no drilling.

I use a RCI 2950 DX in my L. Don't get one--very difficult to operate if you want to change 'bands'--but it does have an extremely good 'receiver'. In my xlt is a RCI 6900-better unit overall but the 2950 'looks' prettier .
