Got a similar problem here in the U.K. The penalty for speeding is harsh. It works on a points thing. You can have a maximum of 12.
Each speeding offence gets you 3 but this can go to 6 depending on the circumstaces. If your caught doing more than 30mph over the limmit this gets you a 6 month instant driving ban.

Points stay on your licence for 4 years and also affect your insurance.
Most motoring offences carry points,
less than 2mm tire tread -- 3 points
no insrance-- 6 points and a six month ban
and the list goes on!!!!!!!

To try to combat some of the crap I've got a radar detector (which is totally ilegal) and also a portable GPS system which is a module for my PDA. I also got some neat GPS software that pinpoints every Speed and red light camera in The U.K.

The guy who invented these things was an Italian race driver called Gatso. Has he got a perverse sense of humor or what.
