If you are that worried about crime, and your muffler is OK - I'd put the money toward moving out of that area!

But don't get a Glock or Sig, get a Makarov (shoots a 9x18 instead of the traditional 9x19) and you can pick a new one up for ~$150. This is the former prefered weapon of the eastern block forces and their are a lot of surplus Maks available now - which is why they are so affordable. They are known to be as reliable as the Glock, and one of the most accurate pistols out of the box - all at a fraction of the cost of a Glock.
Then you can still afford the exhaust without busting the bank!
