Digital camera opinions

I got $250 from my Dad for Christmas and the wife and I want a good, cheap digital camera. We already have a Nikon N60 35mm camera but want something to take with us to places where we do not want to take her $500 camera. We are basically looking for something that takes a good picture, does not eat batteries and is around $250-$299.

I am looking at the following cameras:

1) Fuji FinePix 2600 2.1 Megapixel (3X optical/2.5x digital zoom)
2) Sony DCSP30 1.3 Megapixel (3X optical/6x digital zoom)
3) HP 612 2.3 Megapixel (2X optical/2x digital zoom)
4) Kodak DX3600 2.3 Megapixel (2X optical/3x digital zoom)
5) Canon Powershot A10 1.3 Megapixel (3X optical/2x digital zoom)

I went to Circuit City's site and read the reviews and I am leaning towards the Fuji camera. Also, a guy at work just bought it and said it is great. The Fuji comes with rechargeable batteries and the charger and a 16 MB memory card. My brother bought his girlfriend the Sony but the reviews say that the batteries last about 20 minutes.

I just want to see if anyone here has any of these cameras and what they think of them.

Thanks,
Steve

Blue:

A friend just got the Fuji and is still learning how to use it(their first digital). She is very happy with it so far but they(along with all of them I'm afraid) are power hungry. The batteries required a recharge at about 12 pics. The accessory kit is helpful--she got hers thru amazon.com.

LIGHTNINROD,
I will take a look at Amazon.com.

Swofford,
Thanks but WAY out of my price range. I am looking for something in the $250-$300 range that fits in my pocket.

Yea, I think she got free shipping too. Dan--also, batteries went 'low' after 12 pics, not 25.

I got a Sony DSC-P50 which is the same as the one you are looking at but the only difference is the p50 is 2.1 megapixels. I really love it. It's small so I can put it in the pocket of my jacket.

Get the Sony

Lightbulb digital

We've been looking at digital for awhile. Really like the new Kodak DX3600 and its docking station. But both were going to be around $400.00. Alot for a first digital camera. So, a good friend suggested a Vivitar 3500. Bought it at Fry's electronic's for $119.00. Great little camera. Has a 2X zoom. It's a 1.3 megapixal. It has a built in flash and a seperate view-finder. We spent another $25.00 and bought 8 rechargable batteries and a chargeing unit. Haven't found any of them (digital cameras) that don't like to eat batteries. Got about 80 pics off my first set of batteries. Didn't think that was too bad. But the rechargables will be best for the long run. So far, this camera has done most everything we have asked it to do. Perhaps a most expensive one will be there for us down the road. But for now, we love this one.
Took alot of pics at christmas and couldn't be happier with it.

Just my .02 cents

I have a Fuji 2600 finepix for about a year now, It has been great.
As far as the batteries go you have to have the ones you recharge. no other way. I always carry on day trips a set of batts with me. and a extra smart card. i don't need them but I carry them just the same.
Try to at least get an extra smart card and batts 64 meg card is a good size.
I shoot on highest res. If you can sag a copy from a friend that has Photoshop, its to much fun. PS most of your batt life goes when you use the pic viewing screen. other wise they last along time the Fugi only uses 2 AA batts. I think Fugi comes with a charger

Well, I ended up buying the Fuji 2600 at Target. I got the camera for $299 and a 64MB Smartmedia card for $39.99. Fuji also has a rebate for $35 if you buy the camera and a Smartmedia card from the same retailer. I took some pictures yesterday and put them in my gallery. Let me know what you think.

I took these pictures at the 1MB resolution and then reduced the image by 60% so that they were not so big (file size and image dimensions)

Thumbs up good job !!!

Congradulations on the new addition to the family. Did you remember to buy lots of batteries or are you going to get a set or two rechargables?

Happy Shooting

Thumbs up

Very sharp and clear pics there, Blue! They look great! I just recieved a Nikon Coolpix 775 as a Christmas gift from my fiance. I love it!! It's killing me though, cause the truck is sitting in Houston while I'm up here in Syracuse.
I can't wait to get home and clean it up for the first set of digital pics!,,,,98

Hi Blue

Thats a great price on the camera, be sure to get a battery charger as soon as you can, and an extra set of rechargable batts. Pic look great.
I bought the same camera yr. ago I did get the 90sec. movie model it set me back 700+ really never use that mode. kind of a waste but still love the cam.

Thanks for the advice. The best part of this camera was that it came with NMh rechargable batteries plus the charger. I am going to buy another couple of rechargable AA's to have for a spare.

Here is a link http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/fu...iew/index.html

Batteries that it came with
