O/T..Dell computer question..PLEASE
Just remember, most of the low-end machines that Dell, Compaq, IBM, HP, etc offer are not designed and built by Dell, Compaq, IBM, HP, etc, but are designed and built by companies like Acer. Acer is a Taiwanese computer manufacturer that these companies pay to design and build to requirements. In most cases, Dell, Compaq, IBM, HP, etc test these machines extensively in their labs....
As for Dell, I provided technical support to them in the late 1990s, their manufacturing process is amazing... Thing about your order is that it got to you in 3 days and when you ordered it, it wasn't even built yet.....

just wanted to reply
first amd has not released the Athlon™ XP Processor in 2100+ only the 1900+. Most of the time people dont upgrade there computers they get new ones and if your pretty sure that you wont upgrade then buy a Dell. If you dont know much about computer components then dont build your own.
The 2100 is due out anytime but you could get a 1900....it just sounds like a waste of money to sell one a get a new one when you will never get what you paid for it. If you wanted to get a new motherboard because you needed one or two more PCI slots and the board is proprietary because it connects to the power supply with a plug that only dell uses that would suck. IMO I would rather be able to spend a couple hundred bucks on a new motherboard than have to hassle with selling my old machine, probably getting about half what I paid for it, and then shelling out another 2 grand because I want something faster. This is just my opinion please don't take offense to any of this.
cheers.
cheers.
It will be a year this Jan. since I got my Dell and I love mine. No real problems except Win ME plays games sometimes. Mine is a 1GIG P3. It's not the fastest and wasn't when I bought it, it does do everything I wnat it to and more. I had my last PC for 6 years, so if I keep this one that long I will be happy. I was going to build one then heard great things from my brother on Dell's and decided to give it a shot rather than dealing with putting togther a system then dealing with all the seperate warranties. I have been so impressed that is what I made my girlfriend buy and after a friend played with mine, he traded his new PC in on one. Dell has the best customer services out there IMO, and they are decent on prices including little add ons (scanners, cameras, etc).
The only people who should be building their own computers are people who are also adept at fixing them. The majority of us are better served by going with a major manufacturer. Dell is the tops in service.
I turned my friend onto Dell and I've already lost count of how many systems and servers he's gotten from Dell over the past 3 years. The last I know, he had 3 Dell servers and 2 dozen PCs for his business. He tells me in the 3 years he's had Dell computers, none of them have broken down. The only problems he has are with the machines his network guy built.
BTW, the flatscreen (Sony) monitors are awesome. I have the previous generation Sony and thought it was the best, but it can't compare to the new flat tube monitors.
