Give me some encouragement
Dan,
I had a small drinking problem back in my teens.
It sounds crazy, but this is what worked for me. I
kept a pocket full of caramel candy with me at all times.
Everytime I got the urge, I ate some candy. It took
a butt-load of candy, but it worked. But again, I didn't
have a serious problem. My weekend drinking had just
gotten out of hand. My future wife forced my hand and
helped me quit. Ahh, the love of a good woman. Nothing
better! Oh, now I hate caramel.

Hurray!
Keep up the great work Dan! I knew you were sincere in this & it's paying off!
Don't let your guard down just yet ok? Just keep reminding yourself of how worth it YOU are! That should be the only reason to ever fight a battle like this. You have to do it for yourself & NOBODY else! You're gonna win this 1 Dan - I feel it & so far, my woman's intuition has never failed me!

DanB...this is all I could muster for encouragement, hope it helps keep your mind off other things!

Dan,
Check out Rational Recovery and Smart Recovery. It isn't you that wants the drink, it is the beast in you that wants to drink. Everytime you find yourself saying, "I want a drink", stop for a moment and say, "It (the Beast) wants a drink". I knew I didn't want to drink. It was the beast within me that wanted the drink. Made it a lot easier for me to realize that I was in control, not the beast.

-thanks guys and gals. It helps a lot when there's people standing behind you
You just don't know!
Well Dan, you just got a whole bunch of people behind you - I added your name to the Book of Prayer Intentions at my Church so now you have the entire parish praying for you too! And, it's 1 of the larger Catholic parishes around!
Hope it helps even more! Keep going Dan - you're doing GREAT & you're not alone!

The last time I quit smoking I used this rationale:
If today was the 7th day of abstinence I would remind myself that, if I took a drag, it would take another 7 days of abstinence before I could say that I hadn't had a drag in 7 days.
Corny, but I kept a pack of cigarettes always with me 'just in case'.
I think knowing that I could have one at any time also helped me to avoid it.
Keeping vocal about what you're doing/trying will also help.
Tell as many people/friends as you can -- many will have already been there -- and will help.
BTW, The hardest thing for me to do while quitting smoking was having a drink without a cigarette. I'll bet the flip side is also true.
Good luck,
