anyone still here???????

check out what i posted, it's in the body forum, other body

F150 -> Navigator/Expedition body part swap
Yes that's right....

I'm nuts. I want to take off my bed and get the rear end of a navigator or expo and put it on the rear of my truck. I was thinking that i could cut the rear wall off and where the door closes, and if i could find the body from the rear of the front door frame to the back bumper i'd be all set... I have faith in myself for i have done some crazy modifications to other people's cars before. But I was wondering if anyone thinks this will work??

By will it work, I mean the size of the frame, will i have to extend my frame?? what about the width?? Is the expo or navigator the same width as the f150??? By the way i have a 98 F150 XL with 20K miles... 4.2 liter v6.....

Any one know where i could get the rear of any of these vehicles or does anyone know of any wrecked expo's or navigators in salvage places near them???

I know this may sound strange but putting a navigator front end on a f150 must have sounded strange at first also..................

any help would be appreciated.

thanx

F-150 Regular Cab, 6.5' bed:
Wheelbase = 119.9"
Overall length = 206.9"
Width = 79.3"

Expedition:
Wheelbase = 119.1"
Overall length = 205.8"
Width = 78.7"

Navigator:
Wheelbase = 119.0"
Overall length = 204.8"
Width = 79.8"

Tha main problem that I see is that the Expy has 4 doors and the doors are different than the regular cab and super cab F-150's.

This is more than just a mod. This is a total engineering effort. Why not just trade in your F-150 for a used Expy?

humm... dimensions arent as close as i expected....

I'm not really sure i want to sell my basically brand new truck with 20k miles that is paid off, for a truck with 80k miles that i still have to pay for.... And it would be orional to see a F150 -to- expo/navi modification. I mean i'd like to have the rear part w/o having to buy an ugly camper shell.

i was thinkign about getting the back part from the rear frame part of the front door, so the hinges for the back door will be on there, so that woudlnt be a problem. the expo's/navi's sit on the same frame as a F150 right??

you dont want to sell your new truck, but youre willing to cut it up? seriously though, this looks like a huge job. im not trying to discourage you, but do you think it will be worth it for the amount of money its gonna cost you to do all those mods?

Not to mention the loss in value of the vehicle

Not to insult anyone.....

but when I come across threads like these I have a tendancy to wonder if it's really legit. Very few posts by the poster and to take a brand new paid for truck and chop it up just doesn't seem to make sense. Maybe an older one but not a newer truck. Just my opinion, didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings.

Talking

I think it'd be wild to open up a back door on an Expedition for someone and they see the frame, gas tank and muffler.

"Uh, better sit on the tank. That muffler gets kinda warm."

i think the most money will go into getting the back part of the expedition or navigator. taking off my bed is no problem. cutting off the back of my cab will suck, welding the expedition/navigator back to my cab will suck too.... but it think worth it...

either that or i sell my truck with 20k miles for a Chevy Blazer.... with 50k miles ?

not hurtin anyone's feelings. people chop up new trucks all the time... dont you see trucks layin frame and stuff all the time??? laying frame isnt anything now-a-days i see trucks like mine with navigator front ends on the internet all the time, and you gotta seriously chop up a truck to make it lay body/door!! that's insane that guy on here tuckin20's with the blue extended cab f150 flair side bed with 20's has his bodydropped and they had to seriously gut the cab floors of that thing to make it that low!!

Anything is possible given enough time and money... mainly money.

Not only are the length/width dimensions off, but the X frame has a different "shape". The second-row seats are sitting on a "hump" that I don't think the F150s have.

The question is: Is it really worth it? Like most, I think not. But, if you do it, be sure to post pics.
