Cat V.S. Super Duty

Here are some pictures from an accident that occured on the Syncrude open pit tarsand mine. The welding truck parked infront of the ore truck was to perform some repairs. The operator of the ore truck was eating lunch in the cab during his break and didn't see the welder pull up on the blind side. At the end of the break, the operator started the truck and attempted to drive away. The welder was not in the truck at the time but was sent to hospital with chest pains.

It could be beat out with a hammer and a couple of quarts of Bondo, I guess.

To be ethical, if the Welding company sells the truck they should tell the prospective buyer that it's been in a accident.

I work at a cement plant that has a good sized quarry with 777 Cats running around. We've had our share of "mishaps", but nothing that spectacular!

crushed

I don't believe it. Not for a minute. No way. Never happen. That's a phony picture. It would take a truck at least twice that size to flatten my F150. I wish.

Well, now we know what it's like when an F150 goes over a Civic or Tercel.

depends what kind of welding he was going to do. MIG and ARC welding don't use gasses.

Mmmm, good question. Most if not all welding rigs have oxy/acetylene tanks for cutting. I guess they could have been the right side of the rig. I'd like to know at what point did the cat operator relize he was driving over the truck!

cat operator: "Hmmm, I seem to be lacking a little power here, guess I'll throw it into 4-low, " He had to have felt somethin.

Actually, both use gas. For ARC or stick welding, the coating on the stick produces the gas as it is heated. For a MIG or wire welder, a bottle of argon or nitrogen is connected to the welder. If you didn't have gas coverage of the weld joint, it would oxidize. Try doing MIG welding outdoors on a real windy day.

Of course, argon or nitrogen aren't flammable.
