OT: Terrorism/Antrax is getting out of hand!

I just received two CNN breaking news emails stating "Anthrax spores found in Gov. George Pataki's New York City offices".

"(CNN) -- The U.S. House of Representatives will close for five days in the wake of more than 20 people testing positive for anthrax exposure in a senator's office, House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Wednesday. The House will reopen Tuesday after a complete security sweep."

Sorry to post this in the Lightning section, but terrorism in the US is out of control. I am so mad!

The media's feeding the paranoia by televising every evacuation that turns out to be drywall fragments or powdered sugar...whoever these folks are that are sending this anthrax are probably enjoying all the attention. My $.02 if it's worth that much.

I disagree completely!! What's getting out of hand is the paranoia. Anthrax has ACTUALLY killed only ONE person, and maybe 25-30 have been exposed. These have been relegated to news media outlets (liberal, at that!!) and the office of one idiot Congressman, Chucky Shumer. The media is in a feeding frenzy looking for terror in every corner, and most of the country is lapping it up. Think about it. Does Afghanistan/BinLaden have a biological weapon of mass destruction and the ability to deliver it? No freakin' way!!! Look to Iraq, as I'm sure the Intelligence guys already are. Get frantic when missiles start to come down in major population centers and expel biological mists......THEN it's time to worry. And if that ever occured, George would definately authorize a nuke strike and turn Baghdad into a sheet of glass.
Till then, it's business as usual boys and girls.

I mostly agree with you SunDog7, but you act like we've seen this before. No, this is new territory for the US. I am sure Iraq, or whoever, are hitting the media and high profile individuals for attention. Attention is what they are getting and that's what they want. However, it's hard not to respond under these circumstances.

Frankly, I think the biggest problem is the media. They are so pissed that we won't tell them the time and place that we are dropping every bomb, that they are grasping at straws.

The fact that many seem to have missed was told by the director of the CDC yesterday. He said that we have Anthrax scares in this country EVERY single year, it just has not been publicized till now.

It seems like CNN is broadcasting Anthrax information 24-7, and the same with every other news organization. Every so often, they will say "this is not meant to scare anyone." BS I say. The mainstream media is getting as bad as the National Enquirer these days with the sensationalizing of everything. This is big ratings folks!!! They don't give a damn if they are scaring the pants off of little old ladies (my Grandmother refuses to buy milk now, she is too scared).

Frankly the only thing on the news that has given me a laugh lately is the fact that we are going to start fining the people playing hoax's BIG BUCKS (1.5 million +). I think it is great. The sad fact is that the only reason the hoax's seem like such a good idea to these sickos is because of all the media attention.

Basically I am tired of it. Have I changed my life in any way, shape, or form....... NO!!! Do I plan to....... NO!!! While I want to watch the news to see what REAL news is happening about Afghanistan, I can no longer stand to see 58 minutes of Anthrax out of every hour of news.

Sorry, I just had to vent on this.

We even have nuclear 'bunker bombs' so as to not disturb the Afghan neighbors. Just a bunch of glowing holes...

We won't send a nuke anywhere...remember, we're not the only country that has them. All these events go to prove that we're not as invincible as we've always believed. The world is a changin', my friends.

Frankly, with what has been going on in the world for the last 10 years or so........ if "we" thought we were invincible, "we" were only fooling ourselves.

It never ceases to amaze me when I hear interviews on the news, from people who just can't believe it could happen here. Why not? I am surprised that it didn't happen sooner. With our country being as free as it is, and anyone coming and going as they please, it was bound to happen.

The whole world hates us (at least until they need our help), so why should we be surprised?

Believe me, I am not being pessimistic....... just realistic.

Sorry, I was just generalizing. I know Canada and England are true friends.

Guess I didn't single Canada out for liking us, because, like you said......... you are us.
