5.4 motor question

i have a 2000 ford Expedition with a 5.4 and needs a motor. i have been told that it is a 2 year only motor. So my question is did ford change the 5.4 that much that i can't use any other year motor? i realize i may have to change some parts out with the parts from the one i have which i have no problem doing the reason i am asking is i am having a hard time finding a motor for that year. Any help is appreciated.

You *should* be able to use any 2 valve 5.4 2000 or newer out of a Expy, F-series, or E-series.

The only redesign I'm aware of is the use of PI heads which started in 1999 in the F150 and Expy, and in 2000 in the Super Duty. I don't think the vans went PI until 2001. You can put a non-PI in your Expy with its manifolds, but it's not recommended.

The 2nd generation 5.4 is the 3 valve which came out in 2004 in the F150, 2005 in the Expy and Super Duty, and was never used in the vans. That you definitely don't want.
