David,

Speaking of 1970's full size luxo barges, here's another one with your name on it!

I think you'll find that the Marquis was on the same frame/platform as the Lincoln Town Car. They were identical in ride and quiet. I had one of the 79 Town Coupes, 2 door that was a road hog. More comfy than your easy chair at home and with the quadraphonic radio blasting out of the 6 speaker system, it was one heckofa car. This one is a MAJOR steal for somebody.

i might be wrong, but i dont think anyone is buying these types of cars for restoration or collectability.

i think most end up on 22" or 26" wheels, air bagged and a thumping stereo. just a bunch of big fun, different with attitude.

for me it would be a 60's riviera or tornado, love those cars.. the gold one that Leno did was so nice

I wouldn't be so sure about that -- while a certain percentage of them will certainly be "donged" you would be surprised at how strong the cars of the '70's and '80's are coming on in the collector car world. People gravitate to the cars they remember growing up as a kid -- the geezers who grew up with the muscle cars of the '60's already have theirs by now and the next group up with enough money to actually buy a collector vehicle grew up with the "luxury coupes" of the '70's -- Monte Carlos, Torinos, Cordobas, etc.

I think you'll see trucks coming on much stronger with this next group of guys as well since it was the era when pick-ups moved from the farm to daily driver status. When I go to a car show I barely look at late-60's muscle cars -- how many more of them do I need to see? But if some guy has a really clean '78 Dodge Magnum or an '83 Riviera I am all over it.....
