I'm in Pennsylvania so I usually just drive in for the day, but I always park in the Port Authority Bus Terminal parking garage right at the end of the Lincoln Tunnel. Zero city driving and it's only 2 blocks from Times Square. Getting out is super easy as well - there is an exit to the tunnel right out of the parking garage.

If you're considering staying somewhere outside the city and driving in, consider that garage.
