Does your dash rattle?
Does your dash rattle?
On certain (or should I say MOST) roads, does your pasenger side dash rattle? Towards where the defroster is....it like rattles and its very annoying. I dont want to sound pesky so Im not taking it to the dealer yet.
Anyone else?

Weird,my dash will vibrate sometimes, and only in one spot. This is in the far frontal dash area(by the windshield on the drivers side) It will vibrate for a few days, then mysteriously disappear for weeks,or even months. Then the cycle will continue again. If I put my hand on the trim strip at the base of the windshield,it will stop. I may pull this piece off,and put some sound deadening mat. on it someday.,,,,98
I had '97 regular cab and it rattled somewhere near the passenger side defroster and the air bag cover. I took it in to a dealer and they fixed it, but it later came back. I now have a '01 supercab and a similar noise came to life near the same area. But after I had some speakers installed in the front doors, the noise disappeared. I'm thinking something was loose in the door and was tightened when the installers put the speakers in. My advice is to check the door panels and make sure they're tight. Or take it in to a dealer because I know how annoying that noise can be.
good luck.

My 1999 had no rattles, my 2000 didn't have any rattles (although everything else was broken), but my 2001 is a rattle trap! I have had the doors adjusted, and I've had the aforementioned dash rattle unsuccessfully looked at.

Last week, while on a drive up the CA coast, I heard an annoying rattle eminating from the right front dash/footwell area. First I thought that it was coming from inside the glove box...nope...too easy. My wife opined, "just turn up the radio and ignore it!" (Yes, there truly are fundamental differences between me, a primal man, and my far more sophisticated wife- thank goodness.)
In short, I could NOT ignore it! The rattle taunted me for miles. I even attemped, much to the chagrin of my wife, an unsuccessful over-the-Expedition console-while motoring-cursory diagnosis! I REALLY caught it for that, 'cause we were on a two-lane highway. But.... it was such an AGGRAVATING, IRRITATING, and EXASPERATING "on" and then "off" rattle that I HAD TO FIND IT AND KILL IT! Mind you, that we were on a "relaxing" weekend getaway! Finally, in the safety of the hotel parking lot, I found the culprit! Behind the plastic trim panel, on the right lower kick panel (the one where the fuel reset is), a couple of wires/cables were banging against the plastic cover. EUREKA! I guess that at the factory, these guys were simply held in by friction. I zip-tied (Yes, I carry 'em everywhere) the offending wires and.....much to the relief of my spouse.....could enjoy a relaxing, rattle-free weekend.

The last time I had a rattle like that turned out to be a pencil that somebody dropped down the defrost vent in one of my previous cars.

Ya, I had this occur just a week or 2 ago. The protective rubber/plastic coating on the glove box latch has worn down due to road vibration.
Now the plastic latch squeaks in a anoying random fashion! A little berring grease seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. However
I have noticed a new "rattle" on the pasengers side that drives me crazy..
Some of the ideas posted by the fine folks below sound like they are worth tring.
Any way, I hope the glove box tip help ya'll out.

Sounds like you guys are a lot like me!
I tend to turn down the radio every now and then because I think I hear something going wrong or rattling. My girlfriend and my friends all say that I am just looking for something wrong. It's kinda like the the disorder people get where they make themselves sick and claim all sorts of thigns just to get attention from a doctor. Except we listen and worry that one little rattle in the plastic dash is going to cause our trucks to self destruct and die, LOL.
I hate to admit this, but on more than one occassion, I've turned the radio off because I could hear a strange sound coming from somewhere only to discover that it disappeared as soon as I turned the radio off.
I guess it's the same thing when I get up to answer the phone only to realize that it's the tv.

Mine rattles like a SOB when there is a drink in the dash drink holder. I am real close to putting down some felt or cork down in the bottom of it. The hard plastic holder squeaks even if it has a paper cup in it.
