Cool

I haven't done mine yet. A bit apprehensive. I did the reservation thing on my home PC, and both my Laptops. My Home PC and my 15.5" Sony Laptop both have Windows 7 Home Premium, and my little 13" Sony flip has Windows 8.1. I'm not real comfortable with changing things on my computer that aren't broken. I'm pretty much just a point and click type of guy. I know the upgrade is suppose to be straight forward with prompts and all that. Just afraid with my luck I'll still screw something up, then will be unable to fix it.............I may give it a shot on my home PC first.

I prefer, and use Wordperfect too. You have not missed anything. I find MS Word to be mostly frustrating.

I HAD upgraded all my PCs to Win 10, but I reverted back to Win 7 Pro on my main desktop (Intel I7 2600K, Asus Sabertooth P67 MB, 16 GB RAM, and an Asus NVIDIA 970 graphics card). I found Win 10 did not work as quickly on the desktop, and, it did not play nicely at all with the graphics card (and I have the latest Win 10 certified driver for the graphics card too).

The Win 7 restore went without a hitch and there were only a couple third party programs I had to reinstall.

So far, I'm OK with Win 10 on my Ultrabook, which had Win 8.1 on it before, and my old Dell XPS 410 that I'd upgraded to Win 7 Pro seems to be fine with Win 10 too.

Personally, I find Win 10 somewhat underwhelming. I don't even like the new Start Menu and have installed Start 10, so it looks like Win 7's.

I did the free upgrade to my laptop but didn't like it so I went back to Windows 7.

2 of our 3 laptops went smooth, but mine for some reason doesn't update. I have 8.1 and all updates are done. When i go to the windows store and click /run it goes through the install steps but gives no final message or anything. Restarted the laptop and no change. Went into system info and it still says 8.1... Any ideas or suggestions

If you have a decent high speed connection, download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and either burn a DVD or put it on a flash drive. This can be used to do the upgrade.

AND, if you DON'T want Windows 10 right now and are happy with Win 7 like I am or Win 8(.1), you can download a small tool that will prevent Microsoft from slipping in Windows 10 as an "upgrade" when you're not paying attention. It will also get rid of the "nag screen" notices to upgrade.

You can get it here: http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/ - look for GWX Control Panel partway down the page.

It doesn't "install" on your PC and can easily be reversed later on if you decide to make the switch.

Do both of these - uninstall 2934207 and edit the registry:

Been playing with 10 for about a week now and it's not all that bad for home use so far.. I never used 8.1 on a regular basis, but have messed with it a little on other's computers.. 10 is not much different from what I can tell..

Yes, I still do like 7 better, since I've been using it in my office since 2010 and all my work computers are still on 7 (I'm a system admin for a small CPA firm)

Kinda like the "APP" thing with 10.. At least on my "play" laptop that's an old DELL D630 laptop that I'm using now.. Got only a chess game and a slot machine game, along with the new solitary game thing they seemed to have brought back? For an old fart, these are about all I need for now..

Anyway, I went thru all the security stuff I can find and turned OFF as much as I could .. Still learning what it's going to do about updates, but so far, so good?

Mitch
