This old Ford intrigues me for some reason -- great condition and a body style that you just don't see much anymore:

Not sure about the over-sized rims on that particular car, but I'm thinking you could do some things with it (maybe a more "period correct" rim-and-tire set-up and a nice dual exhaust?) that would give you a pretty neat low-budget classic that would get a look-or-two on a Saturday afternoon cruise!

Dad had a red 72 Ltd convertible for a number of years.. He parked it in the barn at the family farm in Virginia around 1978 and just left it there until about 10 years ago he gave it to a friend there and he was going to restore it.
It was Red with a white top and white leather interior.. Bet it was a pretty car back in the day.

My MIL bought a 72 LTD that was a golden brown with the 400 engine. Considering the 2 barrel carb, it was a dog at best. Advertised 1/4 mile was 18.4 seconds at 77 mph. A real land slug by todays standards. Nice driving car though. This was the time when cars were starting to judged by how quiet they were and if they had a trunk for vacationing families. Most of the trunks of the day could hold the entire family inside it. As I recall, the FMX transmission wasn't the best at the time.
The one on Ebay has a little something I find interesting though. The gas gauge is not like MILs. Hers said Unleaded Fuel Only on the gauge, this car doesn't. 1972 was the first year of mandatory unleaded fuel. Ford had a Galaxie available in 71 that was rated as a Low Lead Fuel car for the environmentally friendly folks. Low lead was available up until 1972. Clean, clean car by looking at the pics. Worth a lot more than the current $3300.00. If yer looking for a piece of Ford history, this is a cheap way to have it providing the reserve isn't astronomical. By the sticker on the door, it has a 2.75 rear axle. That was so you could get across the street on a gallon of gas. MILs got something like 12 MPGs for mostly hiway driving.

A 1972 shouldn't say Unleaded Fuel Only, anywhere. The first year of cats was 1975, and some 49 state vehicles didn't have cats till 1982. With very few exceptions, vehicles with no cats did not have the decal or the filler neck restrictor, allowing use of leaded fuel. Sorry to quibble with you on this one, but I'm 100% certain of my facts.
Also, with a 400 it may have had a C6 instead of a FMX.

Well, the auction on this one ended last night with a high bid of $8100.00, which didn't meet reserve.
I was kind of thinking this was an "$8,000.00 car" when I was looking at it and am wondering what this guys reserve really is? Let's face it -- this car is more a "collectible" than a "classic" and I don't see it appreciating all that much in value over the years. And while it appears to be in very good shape, it's not an "ultra-low mileage vehicle" -- if it was sitting at around 35,000 miles or something I could see it having a value up around $12,000.00 or so.
It sure would be a neat car to have and play around with, but I'm not sure I would pay him much more than what has already been offered on this auction.....???

I had a '70 Impala 2dr hardtop in that Pee Green! Good work car and towed my boat pretty good too. Bought my first F-150 in 1984 and have had trucks ever since.

My BIL had a '70 Caprice 2-door in that same color with a green vinyl top! I was pretty little at the time, but I remember that he used it to tow his boat as well -- a big old Glastron with a Mercury outboard on the back!
