My DIY mods...
Ahh I think it will make it shiny, and probably too much for your liking, but it protects it a lot more than leaving it by itself. It may be worth checking PD's site to see if they have matte clear. I imagine they would, what with all the metallic and pearl colors they offer now haha.
No problem, I'm fixin to buy more to do the rest of my door handles. It's handy.

I used the automotivetouchup paint and clear along with that Valspar primer. I sanded the hell out of all of them to get them completely smooth, which takes me 2-3 hours each sanding by hand to get them perfect, but I'm being **** about it haha. I'm waiting until spring break to tackle the door handles, but I did the tailgate one a few months ago to see how it would turn out. It's not a 110% perfect match, but it's damn close and that's without any baking of clear from the sun that'll happen over time. I'm pleased with it for sure. I did the insides of my 2012 appearance package red emblems with all the same stuff and with the black trim separating the body panel and badge insert, I can't tell AT ALL. I think the 2nd pic is good to see how close of a match it is.

My mirror caps are white PD right now because I plan on selling them when I eventually get towing mirrors, otherwise I'd PTM them too.

Did you take your handle assembly off or did you paint it on the truck?
If you took it off what was the easiest way to do that?
I took it off. You can't do it properly with it on there and you don't wanna get overspray all over the truck. There's a small plate on the inside of the tailgate held on by 8 torx screws. Once that's off, only 2 nuts are holding the handle on and you'll figure out how to take it off. For the door handles, those are relatively easy too, but you have to be careful. 1AAuto has a good video on YouTube for removing them. I've learned that the little plastic clips that hold the lock rod onto the locking mech are easy to round off, but you can "fix" them by adding electrical tape around the point that rounds off. I bought a new one that some DBag broke trying to break into my truck.

Sounds like a plan. Once (if) you get into the doors, you'll be able to see that it's a pretty simple mechanism and that that plastic bobber-dealio keeps ya from breaking anything truly important. I can't wait to finish the rest of mine. Painted handles give the trucks a higher-trim look to them.
how did you get the two colors without peeling one or the other off? Can you tape over PD?
Looks good. I have a can of red, black, and gray in my shop and was thinking my wheel center caps should be red.... now you have me rethinking my whole PD plan..
