F-150 V6 Diesel coming
Well it's on the streets now, Ford is going to be putting the Lion V6 3.0 diesel in the F150 for the YM 2015. Numbers have not been released as of yet but it should be near the Dodge/Fiat offering. In current form it makes 270HP/440ft of torque. Like the Dodge engine, it's not a new engine but has been "improved" for our Gov't emissions. The Lion engine is part of the PSA development. The engine block is a CGI meaning it's strong yet light weight, cross bolted, comes with 4 valves per cylinder, piezo injectors at 29,000psi, twin turbos, and aluminum heads at 16.4:1 compression. My personal, I think it's a good match for the F150 but the Lion is not built near as strong as the Fiat engine and maybe it doesn't need to be. As long as folks understand that this is not going to make 1000hp with obscene mods and that it's a good stable diesel platform that will yield great power for little fuel, then it will be a hit.

Maybe a Job 2 entry but the Dodge boys got their certs in 6 months and considering this is almost a clone of the Dodge engine, with the advantages of piezo injection, it should be a slam dunk to get certs. The biggest hurdle is going to be ramping up production. This adds to the info we got stating the 3.5 EB last year in the F series would be 2016. I'm assuming Ford is not putting all of their eggs in one basket and using a small diesel as the premium engine. Now that my brain cells are working, Jaguar got certs on this engine before the Tata buyout but never used them. Certs would not be a major issue on this engine.
If the Cummins is going to have over 500 ftlbs of torque then Ford needs to turn up the screw a little to compete.
I also wonder why they don't use the 3.2 Inline 5 Powerstroke diesel that is going in the Transit van?

This guy on another forum says the 3.5 is not going anywhere. Sounds like he works for Ford.
"The 3.5L eco is not going anywhere anytime soon. There is more refining going on but no plans on ditching it. We are well into 2018 development right now and the 3.5L is still in the plans. One thing I can say is there is a huge push for weight reduction. The aluminum F150 was a hell of a start, but they are digging further into the entire chassis to see where we can design out steel parts to put aluminum in their place. If they have a lighter yet durable vehicle the fuel economy and excelleration will be there. This is the same concept skidoo followed and it changed the world of snowmobiles. When power and fuel economy seem to be maxed out take out weight. Simple. If further refining can improve fuel economy and power even more then so be it...all the better."

I know with the 6.7L Powerstroke with a chip you can get 110+HP and 150+Torque out of the engine. I wonder if this will be a similar case do to it being a diesel. If so, this would actually be a pretty good investment.
