Focus ST

Thoughts???? I gotta admit...I love this stupid little thing. I've been patient for quite some time know and haven't picked one up hoping it was just a phase that would pass...but it's been a year and it hasn't passed. Then finally last week I had a Focus (not an ST) as a rental car. I have to admit, that thing felt less like a front wheel drive car than any front wheel drive car I've ever driven; which BTW I literally hate the feel of a front wheel drive car. Bang for the buck, this is an awesome ride and I absolutely love the whole Ralley Car vibe too!

Does anyoe have one? I'm sure if you do, they're great.

I don't know if you read these Threads or if its the year your looking for but there's a couple in the "General Discussion" section by a member named "OgRedd" who owned one.

One is on pg.5 named "The End of an Era", And one on pg.4 named "Back to the Dealership....Again".

I had a Focus as a rental car a few weeks back and have to say that I really liked it. However, the standard 4-banger that was in my car was a bit of a dog, and I have ZERO confidence in the Ecoboost engines they offer as an upgrade.

Result: That would be a "no go" for me! Ford is "all in" on the Ecoboost engines, but their track record so far with this technology is iffy at best.......

Yep. Had one and loved it until it started leaking oil at 300 miles, then again at 600 after a fix. Traded it at 700 miles and purchased an Edge Sport. Hope you have a better experience. - Og

I'll probably jump on the ST forums and do some more homework before pulling the trigger, but instinct tells me your misfortune (as with most things automotive) is the minority. Just like here, the gripes and complaints on a forum are typically not representative of the ownership population. I did follow your other threads though for the knowledge. Thanks.

The 2.0L EcoBoost has been in the RRE (Range Rover Evoque) since 2012 without any widespread issues, other than the same intercooler condensation issues its big brother 3.5L has. They have updated intercoolers and a new PCM tune.

I like them on paper, don't have any seat time tho.

If you're into big track runs, the HP numbers are rated on a temporary overboost condition, but for long runs the PCM will only overboost for short periods. Something the average driver would never ever notice.

Despite the slick marketing campaign the EB really isn't all that new. The DI fuel system is made by Bosch which has been making DI hardware since the 1950s. The modern version has been used since around 2000. It's a simplified, lower pressure version of a common rail diesel. The turbos are Borg Warner KO3s which are one of the most popular units by OEMs worldwide. The Germans pioneered this setup and worked out most of the bugs before Ford started using it.

I actually really like the STs, but really, you could have a nice Mustang GT for just a little more.

Pat, Range Rover using a motor, whether (relatively) problem-ridden or not, makes me NOT want one . . .

No prob. I definitely would have kept it for a long time if the mishaps hadn't occurred. I heard the dealership sold it not long after I traded. Hopefully the last fix solved the problem. I really liked it - got it with the ST3 package. They're sporty little econo rockets. - Og

Its a Ford engine in a LR body. I know LR has a bad rep, but it was made by FoMoCo and set in the engine bay of a LR. Hard to compare that to the old buick design pushrod V8s
