2015 F-150 to get new EB
Well, it's on the streets now so this is public knowledge. Ford will be unveiling the new F-150 in January and the truck should be sporting the newest engine in the EcoBoost line- a 2.7 version. Claiming near 30 mpg with the new 10 speed automatic built in concert with GM and Toyota helps with the fuel mileage. The engine family is to be known as Nano. Power will be close to 320HP/370 ft lbs torque depending on final configuration. Here's an article from autoblog about it.

At least one of the existing engines is going away - probably the 6.2. Some people say the 3.7 is going away, some not. I'd guess not, they need a "low cost" base engine. I think Ford would love to get rid of the 5.0 but they wouldn't dare, that would **** off too many V-8 diehards.
Similar situation in the Fusion now - base engine is the old 2.5, the smaller Ecoboost is an option that gets better EPA gas mileage. Top engine is a bigger Ecoboost.

The 3.7 will not see a 2016 introduction. In its place will be a naturally aspirated direct injection 3.0. The 5.0 is to go under a lot of modification but the final configuration is not known yet. CAFE for trucks in 2016 is 28 MPGs hence the aluminum body and smaller turbo engines. The 2.7 uses a dual stage turbo that runs at low speed for economy and at high speed for power. Hope the new buyers are going to like a transmission that shifts a lot cause these units are going to be busy. I don't see any of this as good but I'm still old school. Where's all of this going? Provided our Gov't doesn't change directions, yer kids will be driving a diesel electric powered vehicle. There will be no mods and I've even seen some designs that have no hood meaning no consumer access to the power plant. Hey, it yer tax dollar at work!

I was reading my MotorTrend last night... the New dodge ecoDiesel is impressive. The 4wd Lonestar crew was getting 26mpg highway and the 2wd version was getting 28 in their tests. I'm really impressed with Ram right now.
Not offering a V8 in the F150 would be bad, but one will be around as long as there's one in the Mustang. If they kick them out of the Mustang line up, all hell would be raised. I can't fathom how 28 MPG average for the trucks across the board can be reached by 2016. It's absurd and not necessary at all. Transmission production creates a lot of pollution, so ever-shifting 10 speeds have the potential to be going out left and right.
Things are already bad enough, but if (probably when . . .) the day comes that I am literally unable to work on my own vehicle, I'll refuse to drive one at all costs. That's ridiculous

I'm holding off on buying a new vehicle for my wife as long as possible until Ford figures out what in God's name they are doing with the Ecoboost engines! I can't say there is one Ecoboost powerplant out there that I'd feel comfortable buying right now that I could count on to be a reliable long term (10 years +) engine in one of my rides.....
