What's your opinion on buying a truck for looks/smallish city driving?

Out of all sports, luxury, and town cars I just think pickup style trucks look the best. I'm constantly driving to and from a very small town and a smallish city, possibly hauling barbells and bumper plates around in the future so that's another reason for buying one. I won't be driving off road or anything and was thinking about an xlt, fx2, or fx4 because those are relatively low priced, have some luxury features, and aesthetically look good. I was just curious if it's worth the bulkiness of a pickup truck to buy one mainly for looks, and which one would be the best to buy... thank you, I'm totally clueless here.

By all means, buy one for whatever reason if you like them. I seldom have a need for the bed of the truck, but I own one and have since 1978. When I do need it, it is really nice to have it, but in general, I have one simply because I like it and am comfortable in it.

I never did like driving a small car...even though I had a 1971 Super Beetle for awhile. I've been driving pickup's since the late 1960's and not about to stop now. I use mine for my daily driver and to go on long trip's even though the wife has a small SUV. I average 16 to 17 mpg out in the country where I live so it's not that bad on fuel. I'm also in a hurricane prone area so with the 36 gal tank we can make a lot of miles in case of an evacuation. Oh yes they look good too when pulling boat's...utility trailer's or even parade float's in our Christmas and Mardi Gras parades.

I own an F-150 that has never been in the rain nor hauled anything in it's bed beyond the rubber bed mat. I also own two Rangers that perform yeoman's work as my daily drivers. To be perfectly honest with you, for day-to-day driving I much prefer my little Rangers -- easy to park, cheap to drive and maintain, reliable as a Swiss watch! If you don't need a fullsize truck you might take a gander at one to see if they might work for you!

Good luck finding a Ranger that's not beat to crap or has ridiculous high miles on it - people who have them don't get rid of them. The local Ford dealer pays top dollar for good ones and when they do get ahold of one it's sold within 24 hours.

I had a 1/2 ton truck in the city for about 10 years (an F150 and a Titan). I loved being able to haul my own stuff around for landscaping projects and such. However, everybody else wants you to haul their **** too. The only thing I really didn't like was parking, especially in downtown garages... Gas milage wasn't great in the city, but I work from home so that wasn't a huge issue.

I drive a truck (E250) for work. I just like to sit a little higher. I think that you get a more comfortable interior for less money with a truck.

I use the bed of my truck like a trunk most of the time. I've got a cargo net in there with a bed rug and use the last 18", except for the 6-8 times a year when I need to haul more stuff. I tow a little trailer 6-8 times a year too. Really little trailer.

I like cars. My wifes Mazda 3 is fun to drive. I wouldn't mind a Mustang or a Focus ST to have some fun in. Right now I can only have one at a time. The truck does the trick.
